OT: What're the best D2 names you've ever seen?
#41
For a while I paraded around as MongolBBQ - my first shot at a sorceress, so I went with a cookie cutter fire/cold build. It's an obscure reference to a Mongolian BBQ restaraunt in Boston called "Fire & Ice." Pretty fun place to go with a bunch of people: lots of meats to choose from, lots of sauces, nice atmosphere (though a bit loud), but really good drinks.

I'd have to say my most favorite name I've seen was my friend's Mace Barbarian, MaulibuBarbie.
Is grace enough to build a bridge once burned, to fill that which is hollow with the substance of virtue,
Though the wings of a dove have wiped a tear from my eye, my tongue has fanned the flames of transgression,
But love suffers long and rejoices in truth, and this imperfect creation is striving none the less for that which is eternal...

Poe_Bear or EdgarAllan_Pooh. Not sure which. :)

He will max animal summons: Ravens (Poe) and Bear (Grizzly). Yeah, I like how this is shaping up. :) The Hunter Thread has some other good ideas.

For a very long time all of my characters were named Charon the ____. The convention originated in D1 with the Hand as a sorc, the Fist as a warrior and the Foot as a rogue (think barehanded attack style). Later I branched out to the Dead (necro), the Godly (pally), the Pointy (zon) among others. The final stage is getting away from the stale convention with Nachtmusik the skelemancer, ShockingPink the HS pally and Temper_Tantrum the throw barb. But my account is still the Hand, and he's still near and dear.

edit: added another clever name

I offer a +1 mana charm.  What will you put up on this bet?
i wasnt planning on posting on this forum anymore so as not to upset anyone with my bad grammar,i'd quite happily accepted the fact that it wasnt welcome.

I, however, would appreciate not being compared to a pre-pubescent kid. I have no need for childish revence as I am a 25 year old man in a responsible job, I hardly spend my time posting whatever it was he/she posted (i couldnt see as it was edited before i opened this thread)

Do you people actively try to drive people out of these forums??

Thanks.

Let's see... my remade hammerdin for 1.10 is named Emcee_Squared, because my first was Emcee...

A friend of mine made a sorceress he dubbed Dame_Uall. I countered with another sorceress named Lady_Smacdoun. His werebear tank? Emwyn_Abrumz. The same friend and I are going for what we call B&W: a cleric paladin and some kind of necro. Pater_Albus and Frater_Ater (the fragerator).

On realms, my characters have generally followed the 'Erth_____' pattern of naming.

ErthSpear: javazon
ErthStorm: sorceress
ErthShot: ranger
ErthHowl: werewolf
ErthFuzz: werebear
ErthEros: hunter (so named because 1) he was an archer and 2) he could summon a 'care bear')
ErthSaint: cleric/medic

The best name I ever came up with was Frostilicus, my frost maiden.

I have a funny story about Frostilicus. Actually, it's not so much funny as it is long...

Yea, I'd agree it was a bit off-key. Let me be the first to apologize on behalf of this forum community.

Occhi has to concede more than a +1 mana charm, me thinks.

I owe you an apology for comparing you to that idiot. Not fair, and not nice, not enough evidence to even start going down that road.

I am sorry, please accept my humble and sincere apology for smearing you that way.

I ask that you stick around. We can be very friendly, believe it or not.

Edit: Yeah, Archon, I concede that I jumped the gun and crossed the line on that one.

BTW, I think the minimum bet next time should be a +5 mana charm and three cracked sashes. You know, you've got to put it on the line. :) Especialy those cracked sashes.

Occhi has already apologised, so I won't touch on that.

But I would like to explain, if not excuse, the situation here.

Think about this outwar person. If you read his posts before they were edited, it's obvious why we want to drive away someone like that. Your posts didn't have foul content, but they were a bit of a chore to read. You were called down for that, but why?

The Lounge is known as a crucible for ideas. It's not unknown for people from other sites who are writing a strategy guide to post a draft here to be critiqued. Comments can be harsh, but the end result is a better guide for their own site. Passing the test here counts as an accomplishment.

There are two parts to this. The ideas and the way they are communicated. We place value on both.

If you go look at what's acceptable on the b.net forums, it can be pretty sad. Here's quick quote of a post today by someone with a nick of 'hate16':

From b.net forum Wrote:"LIKE i said before the poeple that LIKE the patch are the was STOP PLAY LONG TIME AGO TY. Go back to the other game u play for 2yrs yes!"
Do you understand what he was trying to communicate? I don't, and it's not worth my time to try to interpret it. There may be some gems over there, but in general I don't want to go through the slop to get them.

If you want to get your ideas across, you don't want to make it a chore for people to read your posts. (In-game chat is another thing. You want to say something quickly and then it disappears. Forum posts tend to hang around indefinitely.)

Good writing makes for better reading. It's good practice for when you need to write about something in the "real world" - you'll make a better impression. Also, for people who aren't native English speakers, I believe well written posts are a service to them, both to make reading easier, and to give a good model for their own English.

The Amazon Basin is generally considered a friendlier place than the Lounge. I think they are looser about, grammar, etc. Even so, pretty much all the respected regulars I can think of take care in their writing. And new members who want to fit in also start using punctuation and maybe even the occasional capital letter.

Even in the alt.games.diablo newsgroup, it looks like most of the posters there do the same, these days, and NNTP groups are completely out of control!

In the past we've made fun of a couple of the big D2 forums, but there are people who claim "dual citizenship" - MongoJerry is the great current example. Look at his writeups. There is a fair amount of effort there to create something that many people will enjoy.

You might want to check out this link to Lounge Etiquette

After gambling a Flaming Bill, I have the urge to make my fire only elemental druid be named Flaming_Bill.

'Flaming_Bill's Flaming Bill' has a nice ring to it. Sort of. In a homosexual mallard kind of way.

Celtic, did you read my post that i was criticised for? I was hardly jibberish it just had a few dots to signify pauses and no caps with little punctuation. Anyway, that isnt the issue, ive allready said (yet i keep posting..lol) that i wont be posting on this forum anymore.

Please understand that it is not because i harbour any resentment or ill feelings, its purely because i know i wont spend the time to post the way this site requires so best not post at all as to not annoy anybody.

No hard feelings, ill just read and only speak if i 100% must :D

I like I_CEDeadPeople... I wish I thought of that one. :)

Ones of mine are: uber-leethaxor (or it may have been uberleet-haxor, I don't remember which), with his Superior Ith Sword, and a screenshot of him getting slain by a quill rat (stupid 1.10, making that not as odd, if it were in act 5), and his godly elite armor (unfortunately, it wasn't a perfect enhanced defense...). Then, there is Divine_Divine's Divine Divine Scepter, Russet_Russet's Russet Russet Armor, Guardian (unfortunately, the Guardian part of her name isn't in the personalization...) NagaNagaNaga's Guardian Naga Naga... Dark_Fader, the necromancer made to the style of Darth Vader, Mase_Hindu, made to the style of Mace Windu.
