Van Cleef

WANTED: a group to kill that son of a .... Edward Van Cleef. This jerk has eluded me 5 times and I've had enough of his smirking attitude. After my last attempt escorting a group comprised of a level 14, 16, 17, and 23 and actually making it all the way down to Van Cleef's First Mate, I am sick and tired of this quest kicking my butt! (Yes, as a Priest, I kept a level 14 alive down there).

This Friday, 10:30 PM Eastern time. Be there with bells on. Here's the info:

Meeting place: Sentinel Hill, Westfall
Character levels: 20-24 preferred. 18-26 acceptable. If you are younger than 18, you'll be a drain on the party, and if you're above 26, you'll make it too easy (thus ruining the challenge and joy of finally beating this brutally tough quest).
Time required: leave yourself 3 to 3.5 hours, just in case, although with a strong group it will not take this long.
What to bring: if we have no Warlocks in the party, ask any Warlocks you might know to make you a Soulstone before heading down. It might just save the whole group.
Quests to get: there are 4 quests that can be solved in the Deadmines. Two you can find from a dwarf in the tavern of the Dwarven District in Stormwind. 1 you get from Shoni the Shilent in the same area. Finally, you get the quest to kill Van Cleef himself by completing a chain of quests for the Defias Brotherhood in Westfall. It is recommended that you pick up these quests before you begin, if you haven't already.
What to know: group mechanics, and how your class fits into a group. Instances require good group players to win - prima donnas will get everyone killed.

Be there! If we can't get enough people for this time, would Saturday night be preferred? Please post here if you will participate, along with your character name, class, and level.

Attending: CleoBoltra, currently level 23 Priest, and REALLY mad at Eddie.

I'll be there. I owe you a successful trip through that instance. :) Any chance at all of meeting at 9:30 EST?

Sharanna - Level 25 Paladin who will hopefully have a brand new killer weapon on Friday.

Alcestis, my level 22 priest, owes Van Cleef a good smacking, so she'll be there. However, except for a cheap robe and a wand she bought at the shop, she's basically naked, so if you find anything that would be usable to her, she would be most appreciative if you saved it for her or sent her a package in the mail.

Never done an instance but can't yet tell 100% sure if I can make it (the later the better since your time is 5:30 am :) ). I currently only have my level 13 Paladin though, so it depends on how I level him and do the quest chains. The alternative is to boost up my level 22 warrior with some items and skills (I sacked all his gold and bags for my Paladin though.

I would say I can be on the reserve if you can't get a group. Otherwise I would be happy to try it out next week or something, perhaps you can then be the tour Guide actually telling how to do it ;)

I'd join you if I wasn't so young... Unless I beefed up one of my old alliance character....

This is on the normal Beta server, right? If so, all I'd have is my Warrior (who has no equipment ;) ) so I should probably sit this one out. But if things like this start going on the FvF server, let me know as I've got a couple guys that would be interested!

I'm in again. I should even make twenty by the weekend (I was the 17 mentioned above). After all, I never did get a picture of mean ole Smite!

Edit: I can make the 9:30 time Tal is requesting with a little bit of warning too.

I did get the killer weapon today only to find out its two handed. Luckily I have a quest that will reward me with a one handed mace provided I can kill the elite orc outside Redridge to earn it. With the addition of a nice two handed mace to Sharanna's repetoire I should be able to adapt to help manage aggro as well as putting an extreme smack down when necessary. ;)

Sorry I am not old enough! -- I just got to Sentinel Hill and turned 13 last night. Not bad though, I hope, for four sittings. Not having installed the game until this past weekend. I hope to make level 14 tonight, but I doubt I will make 18 by the weekend.

My one instance of playing in an instance was not all that much fun.

Hi,

Well, I'm *almost* big enough to not be too much of a burden :)

If:
I can get up to level 18 by Friday (or whenever this massacre happens),
I can get the fourth quest (should be next in the chain),
I'm not out looking at condos, etc., when it happens, and
A level 18 paladin would be useful,

Then:
I would be honored to join the group.

Maybe I could dust off either my warrior or warlock (20-21ish); depending on what is more needed. They should be able to get some cash from each other to get at least some rags to cover their nakedness.

Or maybe we could beat Van Cleef naked?

Just a thought.

I made fourteen and a little more, but it will be a struggle to reach eighteen by the weekend.

Remember too that we can have more than 5 players, so don't think "well, looks like they might have 5, so I'll sit out." If we had six players, we could simply have 2 groups of 3 in the same instance. To do this, it's like so:

1) Groups A and B form with 2 players each. They fight their way down to the entrance of the instance.
2) Group B disbands, and a member of group B joins with Group A.
3) Group A enters the instance with 4 players; the other 2 wait outside.
4) Once all of Group A is in the instance, the former member of Group B leaves Group A and invites the two players waiting outside into the newly-reformed Group B.
5) The 2 remaining members outside of the instance, now back in Group B, enter the instance.

LOL....I can read the headlines now.....

Man assaulted, beaten, set on fire, robbed

Authorities were baffled by witness accounts of a group of naked assailants that came out of the wilderness, and assaulted a man, reportedly known as Edward Van Cleef.

"He was standing right over there, and then he just caught fire all of the sudden. Then he started runnin' around. I saw him run to a group of naked folk. No talkin', no nothin'. They just started beatin' on him with stuff, and set him on fire again and again. His First Mate, I was. Nothin' I could have to save him."

The group of naked assailants is still at large, authorities added. "They have been around here for some time. We keep getting reports of them around these parts. Any information that people may have about the whererabouts, descriptions, anything that would help should be directed to our Crime Hotline."

The Crime Hotline has added a new number for those who need to report sightings, or illegal acts by naked people, either in the cities or the wilderness. The new number is 1-800-I-C-NEKID.

How does that work with quests and the completion of them? Would it not be so that only one of the groups could beat each quest?

The second group waits until he respawns then tags him so that the first group can help out. :) The good thing about it is that the second group can concentrate on the summoned help while the first group takes out Van Cleef then the two groups switch roles for the second round with VC. :)

I can probably help you out with this as I have stashed some nice equipment that Sharanna can't use. What kind of weapon set up were you using? I can make armor for your warrior as well. Just let me know what you need and I'll get to work.

I have a level 16 warrior that should be doing Van Cleef at some point in the future. We can organize another VC grouping when everyone is ready. :)

Hmmm, respawns? I would have throught that instanced would be a "one time" thing. That is, no respawns and you go through it once. Of course, one can come back and start up a new instance and go for it again, but each instance should be once for things in it. Otherwise it sort of take away from the feeling of a special palce you go to.
