I suppose I could've posted this in the ongoing Stress Test thread, but I think it deserves its own thread. For anyone new to WoW and wanting to get together for some Lurker action, we should all make sure we play on the same server and on the same faction.
I saw that Roland created a character on the Test 1 server, Eastern, so I did the same. I don't know what faction Roland is, but I went with Alliance. The faction is important because members of opposite factions cannot group/chat/guild/play tiddlywinks together.
My character's name is "DeeBye" (duh), and I'm a Human Mage, currently level 5. I'll create a Guild if/when we can get 9 others to sign a Guild Charter.

edit: when you jump into a game, type "/join Lurkers" (w/o quotes) to join the Lurkers chat channel. I forget what the command is to list the people in a specific chat channel :(

Sounds good to me. That is, if it ever finishes downloading. I'm starting to get worried. My download is still going. Its approaching 2 gigs and said the file was supposed to be about 1.6. I wonder at what point I should just assume it is a bad download and cancel? There is probably someone sitting watching the server and feeding it more and more to see just how far I let it go. I just know that whatever point I choose to cancel will be about 2 seconds short of completion.

The download is 2.6 GB. I got mine from File Planet and it was fine. I assume you're using the downloader? I've heard that people with that problem ended up with a corrupted file, but please don't quote me on it. Does anyone have any insight?
I just finished registering my account. I can't wait to play. Too bad there's this election thing going on... See you all in the game tomorrow :D

No. I created my account, and stated I would start a character on US East #1. As of my SECOND download attempt, the download is corrupt. So now I have to wait a THIRD day to attempt the download for the THIRD time, in hopes that THIS time it will not be corrupt.
GOD I hate Fileplanet. How goddamn hard can it be to make something NOT get corrupted while downloading?!?!?!?! I've down it thousands of times ELSEWHERE and never had a problem, so what is Fileplanet's issue?! Jesus I'm pissed off.
I'll see you sometime in the next century.
Edit:
Test Server #1 - U.S. East Coast
Alliance faction
Probably a Human or Night Elf, maybe a Dwarf. Probably a Paladin, or Priest, maybe a Druid or Hunter. Undecided as of yet.
Edit 2:
I'm so dumb. I had to use Winzip 9.0, which Blizzard specifically stated, to open the file. WinRAR would not work at all.
I feel like crying. I can't tell if it's with joy or sadness. But I feel like crying. I think I'll just play WoW instead.
Installing as we speak. I'll be online in 15 minutes or less, as something with the name of Roland. Will post here with specific name.
Edit 3:
Ok, leaning towards Human Paladin for starters, with a Night Elf Priest as secondary. I MAY do a Dwarf Paladin, but I'm thinking of being Human. I prefer Humans generally, except for a Dwarf with a rifle. ;)
Edit 4:
Test Server 1 - RolandDT - Human Paladin

Oooh! A bug in either Firefox or the Download Statusbar extension. Looks like they have an int they are treating as an unsigned int. There is a minus sign in front of the file size that I thought was part of the formatting. When I looked at it just now, the amount that was completed went to a -2..... It wrapped around to the negative half of the int. Oops! Argh! That means that I still have 300 megs to go. My progress is now a huge negative number counting back up toward zero.

I officially hate Blizzard.
I start up WoW - blank white screen. I terminate the program, and the Wow.exe process gets STUCK running in my system. I can't terminate it because it's "Access Denied". Blizzards tech support site is completely down STILL.
All this time and waiting, for nothing. Where's that gun again? I feel another tension headache coming to join the first one.
Edit:
I'm pretty sure it's the new intro video. Attempts to play the video by itself are met with video codec errors. I need to know what codec the video requires. Can anyone help me with this?
Edit 2:
Since Blizzard is royally trying to dick me over, I am unable to post on any of the Beta forums, DESPITE being able to login as a Beta Tester! So, having said that, could anyone here (preferably a Closed Beta Tester) post for me my problem, and pass on the word?
Edit 3:
OMFG! I can only play Windowed mode. For whatever reason, FUllscreen mode DOES NOT WORK. URGH!
Nvidia 6xxx series & 61.77 driver support MY REAR END!
GOD this pisses me off.

Alliance scum. I'll see you on the receiving end of my axe, then.
Assuming this "Test Server 1" is a PvP server.
And assuming I get an authentication key from FilePlanet.
And assuming I successfully download and install the client. And stuff.

I don't know what codec the intro uses (or if it even uses one), but I can say that DefilerPak is a great collection of pretty much every popular codec out there.

Test 1 is a PvE server, though PvP is allowable in contested lands.

It's not Firefox. At least, I'm pretty sure it's not. My Firefox download never calculated the full download value before I stopped it, so I could be wrong, but I'd sooner look towards the extension.

Jeez Roland, you have my sympathies! I'm downloading as we speak at a goodly speed thanks to my dorm's T1 line. I hope you get your stuff sorted out! Hang in there, you'll get some playtime... :-)

The reason I think it might actually be buried within Firefox is that it showed the same progress number in both the extension's status bar display and in Firefox's download manager. I would guess that the extension just takes the number from Firefox and redisplays it. Of course, I have no way to prove it one way or another as I have never looked at any of the code.
Now, back on topic -
I'm in. I'm using Lochnarco (should have been LochnarCO but the caps get downsized). If you see a gnome mage with a big beard, handlebar mustache and a comb over (hence the CO) running around, take a look as it might be me.
I'm liking it ok for the few minutes I've played. I can't get the click to move feature to work though. I prefer that to switching hands from mouse to keyboard for moving and changing the view. I am also seeing quite a bit of flashing and tearing in the graphics. It is probably just an outdated video driver but I am on a laptop and the history of getting an updated driver has not been good. Reference drivers have given me fits and the manufacturer of the laptop has only updated once or twice that I know of. The graphics so far seem a little more cartoonish than I would like but they are ok. I suppose I should be posting in the other thread but I was here so just posted a couple of initial impressions.
Off to WoW I go. Have to get a couple quests under my belt and find someone to buy the junk I grabbed so far. Oh yeah, is there any way to increase inventory space? It seems awful small to me.

Well, I can play, even in fullscreen mode, but I have to always START the game in Windowed mode, so I'm just going to stick to windowed. I don't see any performance differences. :)
I'm level 6 and progressing, albeit slowly. Would LOVE some company. Hint hint! :D

*shrug* I'll be on the servers all my closed beta chars are on. The old PvP and PvE servers, whatever they're called now.

I have finally gotten used to the cartoonish graphics. In many areas they are quite beautiful.
Find/buy bags. You will *never* have enough inventory space. Vist the bank in your nearest major city it you have not already done so for some long term storage.

I too am on the original beta and PvP servers. (If they are Pacific Time, why do they have tornadoes?) A friend with broadband downloaded the new client for me, and I was able to get on for several hours last night. Everything is much as before, but with fewer people. I was aware of only two other lurkers.
I did see a level one human rogue in Ironforge, which made me wonder if that was a new stress test account.

I decided to go on the Test 1 server as well. Right now, it's a gnome rogue named Zhasi, but there will probably be another made sometime. ;) I'm enjoying playing her (much better than the huntress Tal :) ), but I don't want to get too far ahead of the character that GG will make when he is done with work.

I don't know why everyone continues to complain about the graphics. I find them utterly unique and wholesome, refreshing beyond words, and any changes to them in favor of more "traditional" graphics would, IMO, make WoW just that much more like every other MMO.
The graphics fit beautifully; perfectly. They couldn't have done any better.

Char: Baldar
Class: Paladin
Race: Dwarf
Server: East - Test 1
I'm sure I'll end up playing something else as well and I'll put that here too. Since we have people on East - Test 1 already I'll stick with that.
Edit: Got me another character now.
Char: MarnTruehorn
Class: Hunter

You nailed that. Wish I could say the same for gameplay, interface, etc., etc.
WoW is not the game I've been looking for (although it started out close, but they keep 'idiotizing' it) but it may be the game I'll play till the one I want does get here.
