Greatest guy flicks

About to have plastic surgery on my nose. Not to make it look prettier, although I am sure it will look better, but so I can breath easier. Having a lot of trouble getting air through my schnozz.

I shall have to watch some "guy movies" during my recovery.

I find it interesting that Mickey Rourke used to be a decent-looking guy before he got into boxing and had his face smashed up a few times. Now he's not much prettier with Marv's make-up off.

I even have the same widows peak. It's creepy how much I look like him.

After my cancer surgery, I looked like DeNiro in Mary Shellies Frankenstein. Thanks to a very nice cutting job, those scars are not to visible now, but all of the others from not so nice cuts are.

Anyhoo, I don't want to go under the knife again. Gotta have my nose straightened and a whole bunch of accumulated scar tissue in that area burned away with a laser.

All alone, or in twos,
The ones who really love you
Walk up and down outside the wall.
Some hand in hand
And some gathered together in bands.
The bleeding hearts and artists
Make their stand.

And when they've given you their all
Some stagger and fall, after all it's not easy
Banging your heart against some mad buggers wall.

Then how about

* From Dusk Till Dawn
* Rocky
* The good, the bad and the ugly

About Sin City, on my second viewing, I brought a couple of friends, a 15-year old girl in the midst (girlfriend of a friend of mine). I have no idea why I was so certain that she would love Sin City. She hated it, though. Guess it really *is* a guy flick.

My wife LOVES Sin City, which is totally out of character for her, as she dislikes violence and gore.

She giggles fiendishly when the child rapist gets his nuts torn off. And then has his head smashed in to a greasy spot on the floor.

Just when I think that I understand the creature known as woman, I am proven wrong.

Those would be "A Fistful of Dollars" and "For a few Dollars more".

To the very extensive list I would have to add:

"The 13th Warrior" That movie really got my blood boiling.

"Bladerunner" - that one is on every one of my lists.

"Hard Times" with Charles Bronson.

"Blade"

"The Dirty Dozen"

And of course since any list like this needs an Arnold movie, my pick is "Pumping Iron" to go on a list of gay movies. Oh wait, it was "guy" movies.
That's different, never mind.

Edit: Thought of some more:

"The Eiger Sanction" with Clint.

"Unforgiven" with Clint.

"Magnum Force" with Clint.

"Where Eagles dare" with Clint.

"The Mechanic" with Charles Bronson.

Or, in that category anything by Sergio Leone. One of my favorites beyond the ones you mentioned is C'era una volta il West {Once Upon a Time in The West}.

I tend to go for certain "Guy Movie" directors rather than specific Action stars, and movies whose plots are not dumbed down to mind-numbing.

Directors whose movies I tend to like;
  • Sergio Leone<>
  • Akira Kurosawa<>
  • John Carpenter <>
  • James Cameron<>
  • Paul Verhoeven<>
  • Quentin Tarantino<>
  • Luc Besson<>
[st]While I can enjoy mindless blow things up, run away from falling buildings, high speed chase shoot em up with mini-gun type movies. They tend to be formulaic, and id satisfying in a grunt, snort and vomit blood sort of way.

I find now I prefer movies whose outcome is not predictable from the first 20 minutes. Typically, once the characters are introduced and I get a feel for the protagonists, the plot challenge is revealed, I quickly deduce the formulaic "Hollywood" solution and quickly become bored as my predictions slowly are confirmed. *Yawn*

Any of the classic horror flicks.

Evil Dead, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, any of those.

And of course, the Dead flicks, starting with the black and white Night of the Living Dead.

The scene where the zombie slurps out somebody's liver is just to much fun to watch!

Reminded me that Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick should be on the list. And in the Sci-fi genre perhaps Dune, Blade Runner, and Total Recall

Ah, but Van Helsing was able to combine them all into one film. And... I really did enjoy it. :D

Looks like a giant finger end with the fingernail removed.

edit: could also be a toe or toe end.

Guy flicks eh?

I see Sin City has been noted, along with a lot of other great stuff.

How about Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte des loups)? That was an excellent movie. Mystery, intrigue, sex, love, death, incest, monster, villains, heros, fighting, lies, awesome cimematography, and Monica Bellucci nekkid. Something for everyone.
