Greatest guy flicks - DeeBye - 08-27-2005

In anticipation of The Transporter 2, I watched The Transporter tonight, and I loved it. My wife did not watch it with me. It was boring. It was ugly. It was just a bunch of guys fighting. I loved it.

I love a good "Guy Movie". This got me to thinking -- what are the best "Guy Movies"? I have my opinions, and here they are in no particular order.
  • The Terminator<>
  • Aliens (the original was scary, and the sequel has ass-kicking space marines!)<>
  • Predator<>
  • Bloodsport (butt-kickery at its best)<>
  • Spartacus (I'm Spartacus!)<>
  • Road Warrior (post-apocalyptic awesomeness)<>
  • Waterworld (like the above, only with water and a dose of Dennis Hopper)<>
    [st]
I could probably add another 20 movies here, but I'd like to hear your input.

Terminator 2. The best one of the trilogy imo. It had the best gun selection out of any movie to date. You can't go wrong with a mini-gun and grenade launcher.

Payback

Die Hard (the first was the best, the sequels weren't quite as good, but still worth watching)

All of the Mad Max movies were great. Thunderdome's plot was a little weird, though.

I don't know if epics really count since they're more plot driven, but Braveheart and Gladiator are pretty high up there. The Ghost and the Darkness is another one in the same general catagory.

Suburban Commando (it's been a very long time since I've seen it, but I remember cheasy dialogue, situations/jokes that were so bad they were funny, and Hulk Hogan beating the snot out of stuff)

The One. Yes, it was one of the many during the year of Matrix rip-offs, but it had something none of the others had. A main character that actually knows how to fight.

Black Hawk Down

The Bourne Identity

I think I'll stop there since I could probably keep on going. Hopefully, the upcoming Doom movie better be good.

Gotta have Fight Club in there somewhere.

Greatest guy flicks - roguebanshee - 08-27-2005

Not already mentioned:

Army of Darkness

Conan the Barbarian & Conan the Destroyer - Arnie at his best.

Fist of Fury (aka. The Chinese Connection), Way of the Dragon (aka. Fists of Fury) and Enter the Dragon - Bruce Lee pwning stuff.

  • The Big Lebowski. It's not the typical movie for a list like this, but I don't think people will have any objections to it being a great "guy" movie.
    <>
  • Ong Bak. Great martial arts movie!
    <>
  • Early Jackie Chan movies. Rumble in the Bronx, etc.
    <>
  • All three Diehards.
    <>
  • Indian Jones. All of the ones with Harrison Ford.
    <>
  • Rambo. All of them were the best. There seems to be a Rambo IV in pre-production, but there is no solid plot summary out there yet. Yes, Stallone is still in it as Rambo.
    <>
  • RoninGreat car scenes!<>

Streets of Fire: Diane Lane, motorcycles, rock 'n' roll, explosions, and a sledgehammer duel finale. And Diane Lane.

Kelly's Heroes: Clint Eastwood, tanks, explosions, and pure naked greed.

Big Trouble in Little China: Kim Cattrall, magic, explosions, and much kung-fu. And Kim Cattrall.

Greatest guy flicks - Doc - 08-27-2005

Steel Magnolias.

It's not worth watching, but, if you manage to sit through it and act interested, with a woman, and let her snot on your shirt, it might get you laid.

Greatest guy flicks - Guest - 08-27-2005

Many of the best already meantioned. Although I think some like Indiana Jones movies and Alien" transend "guy movie".

I would add "Heat" and the original "Lethal Weapon".

Greatest guy flicks - pakman - 08-27-2005

These are what I would add to the list:

-Boondock Saints
-Gladiator
-Saving Private Ryan
-Snatch
-XXX (Vin Diesel blows things up)

I'm sure you could find some nice ones at www.badmovies.org. My favorite quote (edit)was on my signature. It's "A vapiress rises from the grave. The audience suffers.

I have a hard time believing a girl would sit through Dr. Strangelove, even though it is a classic. It is almost perfect for a guy movie though, with lots of guns, a crazy madman obsessed with water, a semi-mad scientist with alien hand syndrome, and about 20 atomic bombs. No blood though.

Great movie. Amazing cast. The song "Burning Bridges".

My additions:

Lifeforce: From a Google description - "naked lady space vampire lays waste to London". Nothing more to say other than it has the closest to perfect female form ever seen on film, IMHO.

Electric Dreams: Virginia Madsen. Great music. Computer hardware to laugh at. Man woman computer love triangle. Virginia Madsen. (At least it's a this guy movie. A female might even watch it with you for the romance part. And if you like the Virginia Madsen part, check out "Creator" for more Virginia Madsen.)

[edit] Blade: (how could I forget this after naked lady space vampire above??) N'Bushe Wright. Vampires. Great car. Sword fights. N'Bushe Wright.

Greatest guy flicks - Assur - 08-27-2005

The western movies by Sergio Leone:

Once upon a Time in the West (Harry Fonda being evil)

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (Clint Eastwood being Clint Eastwood)

and the two others wit Clint, unfortunately I don't know their titles in English.

good karma

You know, my face looks a lot like Marv's. I was startled when I saw him on film.

About to have plastic surgery on my nose. Not to make it look prettier, although I am sure it will look better, but so I can breath easier. Having a lot of trouble getting air through my schnozz.

I shall have to watch some "guy movies" during my recovery.
