Why's it There?
#1
Just something I've been thinking about for some time now, and with all the insane pieces of trivia floating around among the Lurkers, this would be the place to bring it up. There are a ton of things in the game that don't seem to serve any purpose. They're either not yet implemented, or just there to make you say "wha...?"

But I'm sure a lot of the things that puzzle us DO have some purpose we (individually) just haven't discovered. Maybe it's a class-specific quest, or maybe you play one alliance and it's something specifically for the other. So here's the thread. Feel free to post your own questions, or respond if you do know the answers.

Cutthroat Alley - You have to go through a building in Stormwind to reach it, and there isn't a single NPC there. What is this place for?

Ghosts in Auberdine - To this day I've yet to figure out why there's a ghostly NE female standing outside one of the homes in Auberdine.

Non-PvP Forsaken NPC - His name escapes me at the moment, but there's a Forsaken NPC that walks the road just west of the Ruins of Lordaeron, and down into Silverpine. As a Horde character, he's had one or two lines of meaningless chatter. As Alliance, he's hostile and yet non-PvP (nor is he a Civilian). I've always made a point of gunning him down as I pass through.

Cultist Braziers - In the northeastern section of Silithus is a cave full of Twilight Cultists. The braziers in this cave can be activated (they have a wheel icon) and then are inactive for a few seconds after doing so. But there is no action taken, no sound, nothing.

Chandalier in Kharazan - This one's likely a quest that's NYI, but you never know... Is there something up with that one rather pristine chandelier amidst the rubble of Kharazan? It even seems lit up.

Naga in Tanaris - Along the east coast is a named Naga in a cave. He's neutral, has little to say, and just stands there.
See you in Town,

I ran into Dashel Stonefist (and thugs) in that alley while doing the Missing Diplomat quest line.

Don't remember his name either, but part of an undead rogue quest.

Yeah the Forsaken that is wandering the road up and down silverpine is for the lvl 10 rogue quest , you have to kill him to retrieve a set of documents , he is friendly until you speak , can be a tough fight at that lvl :)
Take care

These guys have an alliance counterpart in Hannah Bladeleaf, Marcus Bel, Thora Feathermoon and Aean Swiftriver who prowl the southern barrens, occasionally on the damned path which is a bit of a shock to the level 20 or so hordies who usually use that ;)

Aean drops a scroll that starts a quest.
You don't know what you're talking about.

I thought the horde counterpart to the the alliance guys in the Barrens was the 3 horde outrunners in Loch Modan from time to time.

Jerks spawned as I was doing the escort quest. They killed my escort guy!

Negative, Dashel and his crew haunt the central square of Old Town. Cutthroat Alley is in the Dwarven District and is NPC-free.

In the blasted lands there are some runes on the ground. If you are dead or otherwise able to see ghosts, there is a npc on one of them.

That's for the Rahk'likh line...quest is very, very Warlock unfriendly (all the boss mobs are immune to Fire and Shadow)...the NPC allows you to get to the top of the mesa when dead (when not dead you use the runes).

razzlefrazzlefricknplixk! Lochnar has had that stupid demon in his quest log since before he capped. That means the quest sword has taken a valuable bank slot since then too. Anyone else happen to still need this demon killed, or be working on the line?

To recover from the hijack - There's this big purple sphere/dome NW of Southshore. Has anyone else noticed it?

Oh yeah, there is that group of female centaurs (cenarion circle?) under a tree by the shore in desolace - Is there a use for them?

Like the others said, he's the undead rogue level 10 quest. I forget if you can just pickpocket him or something, but I just killed him. And I believe his name is Astor Hadren.

Horde 'kill the Princess in Maraudon and we will give you Thrash Blade / Resurgence Rod' quest giver

I think technically they are Dryads.

I also need that demon killed. If we can get two more, we can do it...

There's a farm on the extreme east of Arathi (on the coast) with a couple alliance civilians and nothing else.

Maybe it has a purpose on the Ally side, but it seems a REALLY weird place to put a quest objective or whatever, as it's so damn far out of the way.

The Troll, Var'Jun, I believe, in Bloodhoof Village... He basically tells me to leave him alone every time I talk to him.

Edit: Live him alone? Sheep-sized brain...
A plague of exploding high-fives.
