CThun down!
#1
As expected, shortly after his first nerf, C'Thun went down this evening! Nevertheless, it's a respectable performance by the Horde guild "Nihilum" on the EU server "Magtheridon". Congrats! :)

Meh.... It remains to be seen if this is a totally legit kill. They might have over nerfed him in the process of tuning him. I know this happened with Rag.

I was hoping it had something to do with the dragons :(

Well, they might have overnerfed C'Thun at the moment, but then all other "pro gaming" guilds on the world had the same chance on the nerfed C'Thun, and the Nihilum guild killed him first nevertheless ;)

Yeah, as I mentioned on the Lurker Lounge front page, what happened was that this hotfix was placed on all the servers worldwide nearly simultaneously. However, this was during the North American server maintenance and one day *before* the European server maintenance. So, European guilds who had already cleared up to C'Thun were able to jump in there and try the nerfed C'Thun immediately, while North American guilds had to do the full clear of AQ40 first. Still, congratulations are in order. I can't wait to be in on a kill of him myself.

No, they didn't. The hotfix came in the middle of the European week, meaning that EU guilds had a completely cleared instance all the way to C'thun; they just needed to zone in. The hotfix coincided with North America maintenance, meaning that all the North American guilds had to reclear AQ40 starting from the very beginning just to see the new C'thun.

These are legit kills, though. Nihilum was followed by Millenium on Archimonde-EU, then Ret on Arthas-US and Impervious on Stormreaver-US. Expect a lot more kills in the next few days.

Well, even with the nerfs, C'Thun - actually all AQ40 - can currently only be killed by an "elite" of raiding guilds that spend day and night whacking their way through the highend instances post MC. I wonder if a causal gamer will ever see C'Thun at all, and if, when? When the expansion comes out, and even casual players are level 70 with level 70 equipment/sets? ;)

Not really.

I would disagree. It's just another raid instance to figure out.

The first bosses of AQ40 were designed to be as easy or even easier than BWL and they basically are, although the events are more varied and fun. The late bosses and trash mobs are designed to be tougher, though. I don't think it'll be long before most MC capable guilds are making good progress in AQ40. If your group has enough organization to take down Ragnaros, you can learn how to kill the first four or five bosses in AQ40. It'll just take time an patience like learning any new encounter.

MC is where you learn how to organize a 40-man raid, work on your aggro management, etc. It was once "elite" guild fodder only, and now several servers have pickup runs going. I know on Thunderhorn, there's a weekly MC run Horde side that just asks for signups... then they take off with whoever's available (class balance permitting).

BWL will follow, though not immediately. AQ40 will be down the road.

Does he keep whispering you with a voice like a male escort when he's dead?

-Bolty

P.S. For those not in the know, C'Thun speaks to you in your mind while you're in AQ40, whispering things like "You are already dead" and "Your friends will betray you." It's kinda neat. The first time. Only.

I'm curious about that, too. What's funny is that after you kill the Prophet, there's an NPC who mentions he's going mad from all the whisperings of the Twin Emperors, but the whsipers are contained in a sound file for C'Thun. Well, I can verify that the whisperings continue after the Twin Emperors are dead, so they obviously are supposed to be C'Thun's whisperings. Looks like someone forgot to go back and change the NPC dialogue.

Sorry, maybe legit wasn't the right word. But I recall Ragnaros used to not do enough AOE or something, and could be stabbed to death by a party of pretty much all rogues. I guess I'm hoping (though I don't really think it will be true) that it will be rebuffed and made impossible again, unless you do something like ring one of the gongs in his room with the scepter of shifting sands, or with one of the scepters from T3 elementals to summon a dragon.... I dunno, I got wrapped up in all the speculation, some of which sounded pretty neat, and am dissappointed that the whole answer was "bliz didn't tune it right".

Personally, I always thought he sounded like the Emperor from Star Wars.
Sith Warriors - They only class that gets a new room added to their ship after leaving Hoth, they get a Brooncloset

I haven't gotten text dialogue or voice acting since the second week of release.

It was a revelation when I ran SM with some buddies at a lan shop and finally understood what all the "BLADES OF LIGHT" nonsense was about. :D

I agree with Mongo. Any Nefarian-killing (hell, any Chromaggus-killing) guild can do the first four bosses of AQ40 in under a week if they spend a couple nights on it. The first real blocks of the zone are Princess Huhuran (need good execution and Nature Resist gear farming) and the Twin Emperors (heavily execution-based fight). Everything just gets harder from there.

Or just play Alliance and have plenty of paladins and dwarfs who can become immune to the poison volley when she goes berserk. It's funny to see the difference. For Alliance, Huhuran is a cakewalk encounter on the way to the Twin Emps. For Horde, it's a Vaelestraz type fight. It's really too bad for the Alliance imho, because it's a really fun fight.

It's OK. Viscidus looks easier for the Horde to do, since shaman can instantly cure the poison dot off their entire party each time. It's still not a cakewalk encounter, but I definitely see the advantage of having shaman in this fight.
