Wrong on all accounts. You have created the ultimate strawman, fantasy, cartoon figure of someone who does not exist. Standard form for an idealogue who'd rather not deal with actual people.

It is even funnier that you are "tired of" somone who is smarter than you, more experienced than you, and someone who you utterly fail to understand. It is remarkable the amount of assumption you make there, all of which show you to be a complete ass.

How does it feel to be a fool, shown by your own crap?
Quote:In short, you suck, and sucky people are no fun to talk to so I'm done with you.
I will translate that into English:

"People who disagree with me, who are smarter than me, and who have more experience in the world than me I do not like to talk with, I just yell at them."
Hoist with your own petard, F.I.T., for no good reason other than a preference to play the idealogue. The world's a bit more complicated than that.

Your choice, and you wear it well.

This reasoning is eppie too.

Some of the studies I have read over the past ten years show a correlation between child per fertile woman and education. As the latter grows, the former tends to shrink.
Quote:In rich western countries there is no need for getting 4 or 5 children or even more, and because we have time to think about things we also think it is better not to have so many children. (even though overpopulation is not influenced much by birthrates in the west).
I think you are using post hoc reasoning there, eppie.
Quote:But I mean saying were stupid because we don't reproduce enough seems to me a bit strange.
I didn't say stupid. What I question is the cultural norms and assumptions that that do not look further into the future than the current generation.

Nowhere have I said this is not a standard behaviour.
What I am getting at is that starting to get more babies now to make sure there are nough workers to take care of us when we are old is a ponzy scheme.....because what will does babies have when they are old? Do we keep increasing exponentially our earths population?

I don't think that would be a good idea.
Population increase can end in two ways; 1 countries like the rich western ones decrease there population like what is happening in Japan for example. This requires some intelligent economic politics to make sure noone is left without money.
2: war (this is the most likely end because it has in the past always worked like this.....once there were too many people for too little found and resources there would be war.

I just hope we can be smart enough and go for option 1.

I... almost completely agree with his post.

The world is really ending.

Some news related to this (I didn't ant to start a new thread for this).
I don't know how much news from the rest of the world you read or see in the US, but in France this secular example there was a huge protest against gay marriage this weekend.

Even though there is a majority of French who are in favour of this, this protest was pretty big.

A combination (and this is interesting because it confirms what I always say) of Right wing extremists, muslim extremists from the banlieueus and christian extremists from the country side, plus some more conservative politicians found eachother in this shared sentiment againts gay marriage.
(it would be interesting to evaluate this with representatives of these groups Smile )

Anyway, to sho that although France has certain laws like it being illegal to wear a Burqa it doesn't mean there is no freedom of speech or freedom to believe in whatever you want. There is just a line drawn between what is bothering or damaging other people and what is your personal business. But as you can see there is a part of the population that has no problems with deciding for other people how to run their lives. (the usual suspects)

This happens from time to time with other issues where otherwise natural opponents find themselves in the same march. Promoting the normalization of gay marriage is anti-conservative, so any traditionalist, conservative group will be opposed to it, as well as religions where homosexuality is proscribed (in Christianity since 312 AD Codex Theodosianus). The Christian moral response encoded Biblically is a reaction to ancient Roman vices.

There have often been unlikely allies. In the Reagan era, the anti-Porn moral majority crusaders banded together with the radical feminists in trying to link pornography to violence against women.

War is a fine method of population control. Worked for many millenia.

Likewise disease, famine, and death.

@occhi, indeed that is why i wrote it. It is just not so nice for the people involved, and as a species we should know better. But probably my idealism is not very realistic.
