Screenshots of "Developer Island," possible Naga structures, the Emerald Dream, The Caverns of Time, some jungle (?), and Hilsbrad from the past!

"Big deal, they just took screenshots from a map viewer."

Yeah, but I'd wager that most people haven't seen these before. They may even be abandoned areas, but it's still fun to speculate.

I think these are from the old "WOW Exploration Movie", but they certainly show some of the soon to be released under development stuff.

Not necessarily. Consider Mt Hyjal has been in a sem-finished state since mid beta, now over a year, it could be that we won't see any of this for another year or more.

The article only touches on a few of the areas that exist in the game in unfinished form at the moment.

One of my favourite Not Yet Implemented areas is Kharazan. The tower is protected by instance portals, but there is a large area called "The Crypt" underneath the graveyard that you can explore in ghost form. It's a very large underground zone with different named areas - could easily be a future instance of its own.

The most memorable part of the complex is a water-filled room called "The Upside Down Sinners".

Nah, these don't look like any of the scenes from that movie, but all of these areas are old news because of that movie. :P

The Emerald Dream looks very interesting.

Those chains and hooks remind me a lot of the Clive Barker horror movie "Hellraiser IV" with Doug "Pinhead" Bradley. Very similar designs :)

I don't think you can get back in there anymore. I think they made the gate that is below solid both for alive and dead characters.

Water-filled you say? I was thinking the other day how novel and fun it would be to have a completely or mostly underwater instance. There was one in EQ I believe, but I didn't play long enough to actually visit it.

On second thought... that might be a bad idea. I don't want to become an "Unending Breathbot."

I maintain that an instant 10 minute buff for very little mana is more efficient than breath potions!

...who have access to the AH.

Shaman and Warlocks can cast Water Breathing, potion can be bought. I think there are enough ways of getting water breathing that it's feasible.

Deepdive Helmet, which with its unlimited underwater breathing beats both Unending Breath and the potions.

I still feel that that should be open to all professions to wear. Make it expensive to learn how to use one (scuba lessons anyone?) but make it open to folks outside of the profession. I personally would give up a small fortune to equip my most often played characers with one...

Or you could get the staff from Vicious Fallout in gnomeregan that allows underwater breathing. No problem, just farm it. It takes 2 minutes to run in and kill him/her/it.
Reset. Try again.

There's that one in the NE lands, with the Hydra at the end of the level. Filled with Naga and Turtles. I forget the name if it at the moment, but it's a common, low-to-mid level instance. Very popular, and very fun, too.

Blackfathom Depths is probably the one you're thinking of. It's been a while, but last time I was there, there's only a room or two where you even have to swim.

Yes, that is most definitely the one. Thank you. :D And your memory isn't too far off. It does not have a huge amount of under-water content, but it does take place in a cave, with watery depths that you must swim past. And, of course, the Hydra battle takes place in shin-deep water.

Crazy, isn't it? I think they had big plans for Hyjal from the start and all the server troubles they had at first wound up pushing it out.

I'd be annoyed if that were considered expansion-pack material, considering, as you said and as I've explored (still one of my favorite beta posts), Hyjal's been built a long time ago and they need to turn it on.
