Blade Shield

If an assassin was wearing 1 bartuc's cutthroat with a shield, would blade shield ("1/4 weapon damage") be the same as if the assassin was dual wielding 2 bartuc's?

In other words, how does blade shield work with 2 equipped claws.

... then I think it only uses the right-hand claw. That is, the claw on the left side of the character screen. :blink:
