Maximum Blocking
#1
Ok, I've been looking for a little bit, and have found calculators to determine how exactly to *find* max block, but my question is what exactly is max block? Does it mean that you need a certain amount of dexterity to fully use the listed block % on your selected sheild, or something else?

Max block = 75% chance to block after taking into account all those things from the calculator (dex, clvl, etc).

Hmm...so no matter what the percentage of the sheild its still only 75% chance once youve reached max?

The percentage on the shield may be above 75%, this is help with achieving a max block. there is a formula which is calculated via clvl and dex, this is what determins the true block percentage. (I do not know it by hart.)

The chance to block is:
(total chance) = (dexterity - 15) * (shield block) / (clvl * 2)

Basically, if you have 2 dexterity points per clvl (plus an additional 15), your total block chance will be equal to your shield block chance. However, the total chance is capped at 75%. So if your shield has more than 75% block chance, you need less than 2 dexterity per clvl to get max block.

For example, a Paladin with slvl 20 holy shield, a perfect safety amulet, Guardian Angel, and an Elded Whiststan's Guard would have 35 + 10 + 20 + 7 + 87 = 159 shield block. That means he'd need only about .94 dexterity per clvl (plus 15) to have max block.

OTOH, a sorceress with a plain buckler will have 20% shield block. She'd need 7.5 dexterity per clvl (plus 15) to have max block.

So the shield block can have a dramatic effect on how much dexterity you need for max block.
