Yep, played the same way since like beta 2 or 3 -- whichever one introduced the Scarlet Monastery. The fountain's a great spot to go, although that path does have problems if you happen to have someone in the party who is too low of a level for the instance and therefore has a large aggro radius. Then, you can get all kinds of adds walking down the middle. Otherwise, though, you get to skip a lot of mobs that way.
