Two Florida school officials won't go to jail for praying
Quote:B ) If someone said "I lost 60% of my assets last year", when what they meant was "I lost 60% of the equity in my house" when they had substantial savings and investments that declined much less, that would not be vague - it would be wrong. You can't just take a number for a small part of X, then neglect to say it doesn't refer to the whole of X. This is not hair splitting - this is about a trillion dollars we are making appear and disappear.
More like... "I lost 60% of the value in my stock portfolio, or at least one of them..."

The AP story from last April highlights, "Other figures in an Associated Press analysis underscore the recession’s impact: Individual income tax receipts are down 22 percent from a year ago. Corporate income taxes are down 57 percent. Social Security tax receipts could drop for only the second time since 1940, and Medicare taxes are on pace to drop for only the third time ever."

Look, this is quibbling. Ok, more accurately then... Obama has tripled the deficit while watching overall corporate tax revenues plummet by 57% and overall revenues drop from between 18 and 25% for FY 2009. If he mucks this up, and we descend into further economic chaos, then he's Herbert Hoover. If he implements a bunch of socialism and adds 150,000 to 250,000 troops in Afghanistan to bail us out then he's FDR lite. In order to be another full FDR, then he'd need a world war against the axis of evil... which looks to be shaping up as North Korea, parts of South America, Libya, and Iran. Although, at this point, they are not much of a threat other than the potential ability to lob a few nasty missiles around. {Sure would be nice to have that missile defense about now...}

Quote: Seriously though, what does neocon have to do with any of this?
They are following the Bush doctrine by making this kids believe there is a big chance of terrorist attacking them.
If they were really such an anti-christian commie school as you suggest they would spend their time better teaching the children to beware of priests and scout leaders. The chance that they become victim of a peadophilic priest or scout leader is what? A million times higher than the chance of their school being attacked by terrorists.....ergo....they are a neocon brainwashing school.

Kandrathe.....please stop trying to blame people in the US of socialist and anti-christian brainwashing

But we all knwo while this happened, and we also know that probably every other presidents R or D would have done the same. You can hardly use the bailouts for proving that Obama is an ignorant money spending president. Without the bail-out (how unfair they maybe.....seeing that the bakers already started giving eachother bonusses again) things would be worse in the US and Europe.

You are trolling kandrathe. Saying that it is unfair that that only 5 big nations have right of veto in the UN security council is hardly axis-of-evil material. Just as is protecting your countries reseources from foreign multinationals

Two words. Spell check. For better or worse, Presidents get stuck with things that happen on their watch whether or not they had anything to do with it. For example, Bill Clinton greatest accomplishment while in office was to pass Welfare Reform. Not what you'd expect from a progressive.

Not a troll. I was saying that Obama is no FDR, since the "axis of evil" is not a valid threat comparable to WWII, and a plethora of other incongruities.

Blame? No, I'm showing you facts my dear eppie. And, then... since you asked politely, I must respectfully decline.

These numbers have the virtue of being more or less true, although how you got the range "18 to 25" I'm not sure - I've not seen a number over 20%. But whatever, at least we're not off by a factor of three (AKA a trillion dollars) anymore.

And, some peculiar speeches notwithstanding, Libya swapped sides. They're no longer on the "axis of evil" list - not even the revised, enhanced, 4th edition version.

Hi,

Quote:Edit: On second thought, perhaps because I choose to follow the Buddhist code of conduct that makes me a Buddhist. I don't know.
Last night, this statement came back to haunt me. I contemplated it for a long time. Part of me said that you are what you do. Another part of me said that you are what you believe. The dichotomy of Jefferson's life and writings ran back and fourth, sometimes supporting one side, sometimes supporting the other.

Are you a Buddhist? I think probably not. Following the Buddhist moral code, for the most part, does not make you much different from those who follow the moral code of most religions. To actually *be* a Buddhist, I think, you must embrace their world view, their theology. You must accept the concepts of karma, their abstract concept of rebirth, and the desirability and attainability of a state of total non-self (nirvana).

Ah good. I can go to the Christian church again, and not worry about being a closet Buddhist. :)

Would a closet Buddhist worship at Goodwill?
At first I thought, "Mind control satellites? No way!" But now I can't remember how we lived without them.
