Quote:So if I actually found an SOJ (yeah right) and had a lot of spare change, I could conceivably "buy" a diablo clone by repeatedly selling then rebuying my SOJ from said vender over and over again? Or do I have to have 1000x duped SOJ's and sell them all to the venders? I don't know, if its the first one, it seems like an alright method to me if your lucky enough to have found an SOJ on the ladder, but if its the latter, then shame on you Blizzard.
It's the latter-- and indeed that's why I put it in this thread. Basically I can't really have a legit anni.
And speaking of rare things. I gambled a cathan's ring, not really sure to be happy about that or not.

More rantaments:
Get rid of the damned lobby, or give an option to disable it. The way it's set up it's so half-assed that it's just worse than the way it was before. I think it was set up to dodge the spam in the public channels, but Nothing is more annoying then being unable to message someone in the lobby. You get "You can't whisper to that user" if you try messaging them. So if you want to receive whispers from friends, you have to enter the God damned default channel anyways. And this wouldn't be so bad if you could set a default channel anyways, but no, that would be too simple? To enter the Lurker Lounge channel or the channel I frequent I still have to cross the highway of idiocy. (There is /ignorepub anyways) So, that pretty much summarizes Blizzard's solution to anything in d2-- half assed and causing more trouble for the victims of cheating, hacking, spamming, or whatever.
On the other hand, Blizzard seems to be rather attentive to the community regarding starcraft II, answering questions asked by the community and actively changing the game. Perhaps they have learned and there's more hope for d3.

I second the motion :D. The thing I hate the most is entering the chat and immediately getting bombarded with the spam bots. I also second the motion to be able to set a default channel. Still, the chat system for battle.net is infinitely better than most MMO's, including the failed Hellgate London.

Alright here it goes:
For the record, I do believe this is a bug and should go under The Maggots Lair, but I'm in the mood to bitch about it so :P.
I just lost a level 64 paladin in nightmare act 2 to some scarab beetles. The strange thing is I helped two friends in a 6ppl game the day before through all of act two with 45% light resist and was barely scratched. Now this time, I had 75% light resist and could not take more than 1 light bolt without loosing half my life, from any of the scarab beetles. My weapon was not switched, my gear was not changed, yet it was as if I had on no gear whatsoever. This is NOT the first time I have lost a character this way, and suffice it to say, not the first time I have seen others die in this fashion. One was a level 74 amazon with over 700 health get dropped in one hit in nightmare cows, another time a paladin in river of flame, another time a barbarian to the catapult shots right before frigid plains. I have no doubt whatsoever that this is an undocumented bug in the game, but have no way of proving it or reproducing it, save for the experience of me and a select few others. Each time, I'd say the gear our characters was wearing was, for whatever reason, not being properly calculated for the entire game. We all died withing minutes of entering games, so it wasn't an effect that kicked in later, but was present during game creation.
My rant? I just lost a level 64 paladin with all of my best gear (a freekin sigons full set - have had NO luck finding good gear this season) for something that was not my fault. I pride myself in Hardcore of never dying the same way twice (if it can be helped), telling others that's how you learn, but what do I say now? I'm so mad and I died yesterday, and I'm mostly mad because it wasn't my fault; I didn't die to fire explosion, I didn't die to being cursed, or anything I might of overlooked; I died from a bug very few others have seen before with no way of getting my character back. Oh well, who said life (or death in this case) is fair?

Were the beetles Fire Enchanted? Fire enchanted monsters are extremely bugged depending the type of monster, and scarabs are a particularly nasty one when they are FE. It gets especially bad in nightmare difficulty because they didn't really fix the problem there. They "solved" the problem by reducing the fire enchanted damage in hell. But perhaps I need to raise a toast to those who play single player hc, where it was never fixed at all...
In HC, I never get near a fire enchanted monster-- always use the merc to take it out. If it's dual enchanted, just avoid it, it's just not worth it in most cases. Even with 75 resist and some absorb it still takes off a minumum of 700-800 life. And yea, I really don't test it often.:PAnd don't even get started with the ancients.

It is documented, see the Phrozen Keep, about how the game calculates damage up to 10 (20?) times for that damage dealing event. (IIRC, Nefarius has a post about it.) This is one of those irritants that Blizzard had valuable feedback on, from both the gaming and mod community, and chose to blithely ignore.
But hey, we got synergy! We got overpowered Rune Words! Hey hey hey!!!!!
OK, I'll stop now.

I have to agree; certain fire enchanted beasties are walking bombs. When I last got back into Diablo 2, I took my lightning specialised Sorceress on a walk through Act III nightmare. I was doing great and good times were had, until a certain mister Flamefinger decided to spill his guts, completely blasting away my more than generous healthpool. As for lightning enchantedness along with other enchantments, I have noticed numerous times that when a CEB LEB boss monster is hit hard enough to go into hit recovery, he will also fire off an invisible Frost Nova (like he does upon being killed), chilling your character if you're standing close for no apparent reason, as well as doing a fair amount of additional damage. I'm guessing the same happens for fire enchantments. As I pretty much only play ranged characters (the Life Leech or drink pots like hell aspect of most Diablo 2 melee builds bothers me, especially since I prefer singleplayer), I haven't noticed thus far.
Still, it's odd that this kind of thing is happening on seemingly random stuff, like Joe Average the Beetle and catapults. Never had that happen to me.
Oh well, at least there's those runewords;)

Yea, i think i've seen that one before as well. Made it rather tedious for more warcry barb. :/

Maybe this is what happened? Yeah, one of the beetles was fire enchanted, but he did not die so I didn't fall victim to fire explosion, however could the fire enhancement of effected the lightening the beetles release? Or could this "recovery" mode have caused my death? Interesting. Maybe this is unrelated to the other bugs I described (where I've seen players felled to a single catapult shot), and more of a Fire Enchant issue.

All my friends are currently playing this game what seems like 24/7 and they keep asking me when I'm going to play. I have a wife, kids, and not a lot of free time, so I find it frustrating that they keep asking me this. Ive long abandoned the idea of "catching-up" to them in levels or items, and where I once use to be the 'go-to' guy for help, am now the 'in-need-of-assistance' guy. . . all the time. They are always backtracking quests and baal runs to get me up to their levels of play. I appreciate it, but it feels... like I'm holding them back. I know they enjoy my company because they are very happy when I am on, but I can't shake this feeling that I should be on more, but I can't. My time with my family is far more valuable to me than some stupid video game - I learned that lesson years ago when Diablo 2 first came out. It seems to me one of my friends may soon learn that lesson himself in his quest to be the best in the game.

BTW, I'm just venting. I don't expect anything to change, and I do tell my friends when I have time to play and when I don't and they are understanding, which is nice.

After all this time playing this game, I finally found out why my Multi-Shot doesn't hit sometimes. I always thought it was a bug with my Valk where she would hit an enemy then I wouldn't be able to strike the monster for like a second or two. I've mentioned this numerous times to which I kept getting the reply that if I couldn't duplicate it, it must have been in my head, even on these boards, even when I was positive what I'd seen. So now while researching information up on the Assassin, I find this NEXT DELAY section and realize that is what is happening - that I actually cannot hit that monster again with multi-shot when ANY of those NEXT DELAY skills goes off on that monster until the NEXT DELAY timer goes off. Interesting, but annoying.
