When I unchecked it, it moved the date and poster avatar above the post text instead of in a column alongside it with the date at the bottom. Cool beans. Why, thanks. I hadn't tried that option, but I think I like it. The flow of exchanges is clearer (to me) without the intervening bands.

I've been waiting for the day to come where I could upload an avatar. The old one I had hyperlinked from my ISP page was a wee bit stale, and I've had a new one sitting on my harddrive for quite a while now.
As you can see, the new one is a major improvement.

So which Scenario are you saying?
This would be Scenario 1.

Doesn't seem to be a way to do this.

This would be Scenario 1. Then sure, I'll commit to editing a theme into looking roughly like the old one. Along the lines of what I already posted.
As for a theme for me to edit, can you copy the default theme and upload it with a different name? Any theme would do really. Just something to give me a base to work off of.

You're now registered as an Administrator - one that can only access the Themes section of the Admin area. (I love this forum!)
Click on your Admin CP link and it'll take you to the Themes area. You can create your own theme (it copies the default), play around, etc.

I just nuked over 12,000 spambot registrations that came over from the old board. Cleaned up the user list a bit.

I have an "Old Lounge Theme" available now. It is still a work in progress, but anybody who wishes to use it should be able to. I'd appreciate thoughts on it too. Like if you aren't quite happy with a color. Even if just the tint of it slightly. Whatever bugs you. Now would be the time to let me know. : )
I haven't done the images yet. So anything that is a bright blue is due to that. I have some plans for that, but I need to make the files and then I need to discuss with Bolty how we want to handle that. I'm thinking the easiest way would be a new folder in the images directory that has all the images for this theme. That way I just have to change where the theme looks for images instead of actually editing templates. I'll either have to email Bolty the images to upload or post them in this thread for him to save and upload. I don't see a way in the admin to upload the images myself for it to use. Maybe I am missing something though.
The other option is to just leave the blue images and integrate them into the theme more. Adding some more blue so they fit better and such. Not really a fan of this option, but it is there.

For those wondering, you change the board theme in the User CP. Go to "Edit Options" and look for the drop-down in the lower-right part of the screen. "Board Style" is the thing to change.
Quick comment I can make before I play with it a bunch: the notification for PMs area has some harsher colors that make it a bit difficult to read. But wow, it's like I'm looking at the old board again, just about.
As far as images go, I'll have to FTP them to the server, and yes they'll go in a subdirectory of /images to keep them separate. We can have lots of themes here over time...we could even have themes for each forum, stuff like that. Depends on how creative people want to be.

I changed to the new Old Theme, and I feel right at home. Thank you, Swirly and Bolty.

Let me add my thanks! I like it too. A slightly lighter text box background for entering posts would be a minor improvement.

Looks very good, thanks Swirly! The only thing I can think of as a criticism is that the emoticons have a ring of white around them, which doesn't blend well with the background of posts, but that's rather minor.

I like it too, with one exception. The blue for the bar containing the forum/post title seems out of place. Can it be changed to another shade of brown? I think the rust used for the bar containing the user name, time, etc. would look real nice.

That zip should have a folder in it for you to upload for the images. I downloaded the board package from the site to get a base knowledge of what files should be there. I also grabbed some gifs with transparency from the site that look to be the same as the board is already using. Obviously I also changed some graphics to blend with the theme.
I removed the Avatar, Smilies, and Icons folders. I figure if those are necessary you can copy the folders you already have for them. I might work on designing some smilies that have a transparent background. Not sure if I will or won't do that yet, but I'm debating it.
Anyway, let me know when/where it is uploaded and I'll change the theme over. Have to change where the theme in general points as well as a couple of things in the css.

Sorry, I thought you were talking about the various buttons and icons that are blue. I thought that bar would be a color setting like the other table elements on the page, not an image. Thanks again for the work to get us comfy.

The background of the box to enter text looks about the same to me. I don't think it changed. Possibly lighter. I did not think to measure the color. Not sure if it makes a difference but when I wrote last night the room was illuminated with warm incandescent light and now it is gray overcast daylight. In any case the color is OK if you can't easily change it.
Thanks again.
Oh, did I have to do any settings change on my end to make a difference?
