He makes it sound like people who maphack are somehow "evolved", and that if legit players could get safe hacks that they would. I just had to laugh at this.

The tired old crap about cheats and hacks that has gone on for years is one of the reasons that Bolty started his own board. Cheat free, is his wish, and maybe you begin to understand why it's the people who are the problem, not the game.

I play in private games, so I don't have to worry about that kind of crud. That Death Slayer person at the end burns me up; he says as one of the options for legit players is to just leave a game if they don't like what the maphack users are doing. Don't leave the game if you aren't the one doing something wrong. They are the ones using the hacks. They are the noobs, not you, so don't let them order you around and leave the game because they think you "whine" too much.

The only reason i use maphack, is becasue it shows the monsters on the map. This is really useful in HC. Im sure that in real life, you would be able to see the monsters infront of you, so they should be on the map anyway.
I love it. :)

Notice how when it helps them, it can be compared to real life, but when it doesn't then you are a n00b and it is just a game.

This is a quote from one of the replies to that thread:
Quote:Ok, if you dont like haveing to join another game with everyone haveing all the advantages. Then
1.Quit diablo II you whiny person.
2.Play private games.
3.Just download it your self.
4.Shut up and deal with it.
Most of you "legit" people would download maphack in a second if you knew a safe place to download. All maphack does is make things easier to see, and just for this LITTLE adavantage the so called maphackers lose thier account? Bah, think of people with maphack as people that evolved. So you would just banish them cuase they have advantages? Deal with it or shut up.
Don't you just LOVE it?
1. Quit D2? Hellz no!
2. Why should i fear the public?
3. Ummm... no?
4. see above
*big sigh*

There's this other guy named marth that tries defending
that maphack adds to his fun, and all opposing that are
trying to intrude on his fun (He also said he's just gonna
use the same hacks as before, as he doesn't want to let
'bliz win over him'). There's been tons of topics like that
ever since those cheaters got what was coming to them.

Now, wait a minute. I agree Maphack is cheating, and therefore should not be used. But this guy is NOT using an entirely flawed argument. He's claiming that Maphack adds functionality to the game that makes it a BETTER game. You're all responding to this argument with "Maphack is wrong." That's a non sequitor.
Now, do you agree that if Bliz had allowed you to see monsters on the map, the game would be better (or at least be more rational - What kind of character can only see ten feet in each direction?)? I certainly do. (And no, I don't use Maphack, or any hacks.) That would be awfully neat to be able to do! It would patch what I consider to be a flaw in the game's design. Hence, I agree with this fellow's argument.
If you want to claim that his argument is flawed, you're gonna have to attack it by saying that the features Maphack adds do NOT improve the game. (Indeed, he does that himself when he says that the ability to see other character's equipment may be inappropriate.)

The whole point of the Realms is to have a level playing field where everyone is playing with the same conditions.
If you are too lame to play a game with the same conditions as everyone else, then get back on the short bus and play on Open.
These losers sound like the kind of kids who throw a tantrum if you won't let them play chess with all queens. They either lack the self-confidence to believe that they can compete fairly, or they really are too stupid to play they same as everyone else.
It's nothing that a good whack upside of the head wouldn't fix. I don't know what sickens me more, the spoiled brats, or the parents who obviously should never have kids.

Hi,
The whole point of the Realms is to have a level playing field where everyone is playing with the same conditions.
Right. And if Buzzard included some of the features of maphack into the game, we would all be using then and the field would still be level.
So, again, maphack is a cheat *only* because Buzzard says it is a cheat. Their game, their rules and that's fair enough. The people defending maphack need to understand that it *is* cheating because Buzzard says so. The people opposed to maphack need to realize that it is cheating *only* because Buzzard says so. Buzzard could just as easily put a link to maphack on their site and say "go for it" as many other game companies have done with 3rd party programs. So, demonizing maphack is illogical.
If, OTOH, you wish to argue that many of the maphack "improvements" are cheesy in the extreme, then you have a valid argument. One that, however, I would have to stay out of, since I have no personal experience with maphack at all.

Pure and simple Maphack is a hack that should not be tolerated in the game, it ruins the fun and finding things when your leveling..!

In Golf, it is the USGA. Their rules are what sets the condition of play.
In Diablo II, and in its expansion, it is Blizzard. They set the rules of play. Blizzard has proclaimed that MapHack is a cheat, something many of us already knew intuitively and via reading the bnet Terms of Use and the EULA.
Pete makes the point that if the features of maphack were adopted by Blizzard, it might indeed be a game improvement.
But it has not been. Public bnet is an arena where all players are playing a game, and a game is defined by its rules. Since the Official Blizzard Rules do not at present inlcude the Maphack features, anyone who uses it is cheating by going beyond the rules. They are using seven cards in a game of five card stud. More importantly, they also can negatively impinge on the playing experience of the player who does not use it in a public game.
In a duel, the non Map Hacker for example will see the other player later when across the screen "X" distance away.
In the free for all grabfest of public games, the Map Hack user often 'sees' runes, and some other choicer drops, sooner due to a color coding feature. He thus has an advantage, an unfair one, of not having to scan a lot of text before choosing the first thing to click on when there is treasure all over the ground.
I won't go into the pro and con of all features, as I am not familiar enough with that cheat to discuss them all: I have gleaned this info from posted readme's from Mousepad's program that were included in duscussions at dii.et, where the great Map Hack debate never ends.
Are the features that Mousepad includes an improvement? Well, Blizzard does not think so. The game creator does indeed have the last word, at least on Realm games. (All Ith swords aside . . .) Hence the comment about 'going to Open' to cheat. That was declared a free fire zone a long time ago.
EDIT: forgot to preview, fixed dumb mistakes.

Hi,
And its wrong for you to pull out your teath when you just got them fixed?
That has to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.
Pure and simple Maphack is a hack
So is the accelerator, which most (including Buzzard, who ultimately are the only ones that count) do not consider a cheat.
that should not be tolerated in the game, it ruins the fun and finding things when your leveling..!
If you don't have the wit to understand an argument, don't drag it down to your level. Just don't answer instead of answering with stupidity and ignorance.

Threads like that are the reason I don't hang around GameFaqs much at all. You have the same odds of finding intelligent posters as you do finding a SOJ in D2 O_O.
As for MapHack, it doesn't bug me. Now don't get me wrong, I don't use it. I just don't care if someone else uses it because in the end, I'm not the one who will get their account hosed for cheating, am I?

Hail Pete,
What does Foxbat's Diablo II Accelerator exactly do?
I want to know, because I want to decide for myself if I could tolerate its use. Until now, I do not, for it's a third-party program.
Would be neat if you could clear that up for me.
Thanks, Fragbait

Hail Feryar,
My bad on that. I usually search google, too, don't know why I posted superfluously instead.
To give my post a reason, let's make ourself some sort of poll. Yeah right, a poll is bad, so take it as a discussion that answers the following question:
Do you (all) consider Foxbat's Diablo II Accelerator to be a cheat / players who use Foxbat's Diablo II Accelerator not to be legit ?
Greetings, Fragbait

No. And this is coming from me with my strong "muling is cheating" stance and old Voodoo II card that lets me run the game happily without any desire for personally using such a mod.
I don't feel that Foxbat's Diablo II Accelerator is a cheat at all. All it does is switch off some extraneous graphic rubbish, like rain, in order to free up some processing power for actually playing the game. That gives no unfair advantage to the player - It merely reduces a disadvantage in some cases where there is one.
And Blizzard doesn't consider it a cheat either. :P
