Smith's mlvl
#1
Does anyone know the realationship between ilvl and mlvl. I'm asking this because of a very rare find. I was playing single player 1.10, I killed the Smith and he dropped a Gull. This was the first time I had ever found a unique item from the Smith. I assume that Gull has a high ilvl since it's so rare, and since I killed the Smith on normal I figured it was impossible to find a Gull from him. So what is the ilvl of a Gull and what's the mlvl for the Smith.
But I told that kid a hundred times "Don't take the Lakes for granted.
They go from calm to a hundred knots so fast they seem enchanted."
But tonight some red-eyed Wiarton girl lies staring at the wall,
And her lover's gone into a white squall.

The Smith has mlvl 10. Items dropped from monsters have ilvl = mlvl. Gull is level 6, so any dagger of ilvl 6 or higher has a chance at being Gull (provided it has a chance of being unique).

The reason Gull is so rare is that it's a dagger, with a very low TC (weap3). Early in the game, where daggers are likely to drop, monsters don't drop a lot of uniques (and people don't have a lot of MF in early act 1). Later in the game, with good-stuff-dropping monsters such as Mephisto, that low TC isn't as likely to drop anymore.
