That was pre WD-40, which might work better. Also, if you're looking at a nut and bolt (as opposed to a nut and stud) it's often easier and faster just to shear or chisel the old ones off and replace them. Studs are a problem, but shouldn't be much of an issue in this case, since they're mostly up where the manifold connects to the block.
