Actually, "on attack" doesn't work with bows.
I've tested this with a rare ring that casts chain lightning on attack. Doesn't work with bows, but works fine on my paladin with zeal (or any other melee for that matter). You do need on striking.
Oh and for the love of god, you DO want to use Atma's scarab of 1.08 saracen's chance. Amplify damage is a GODSEND. Keep in mind that in hell difficulty in 1.09 it takes enemy physical resistance from 50% to -50%, effectively tripling the physical portion of your damage. You kill significantly faster with it, regardless of the previously mentioned bug.

With the previously mentioned equipment, alongwith a smoke armor my amazon could solo the chaos sanctuary in an 8 player game with relative ease.
