On my Christmas-list I had included "Fantasy pictures to hang on walls" (or something to that degree), but seeing as there's no one in my family who has the vaguest idea of what "fantasy" is, I got 3 framed animals (don't know what kind; they seem to be drawn by a kid in 1st grade.) within a single frame. I'm not sure if there's an artistic term for this kind of picture, but it looks something like this):

Note: The images in this picture do not represent the real thing. I just used these to illustrate how the thing is layed out.
Now, what I want to do is either
1. Find 1 big picture I can have in the background of the three "openings" (left, center, right).
2. Find 3 smaller pictures I can have in each separate "opening."
I'm going to find a website which has some pictures I like, download them, and print them out on high quality paper (we've got a solid printer) and replace the animals currently in the frame with the picture(s) I find.
I've found some nice pictures already, among others a big picture of Arwen's sword, but I'm still looking around. Obviously, due to the dimensions of this picture, this would fall into category 1, mentioned above.
I'm looking for fantasic (in its original meaning) pictures of either landscapes, castles, animals, weapons, armies. It needn't be Tolkien or Lord of the rings-related (Obviously, I'm not adament about having LOTR-pictures, I'm just saying the pictures don't have to be related.) They just have to look nice. I'm going for a medieval/fantasy-type feel to the picture I want on my wall.
Do you know of any websites where pictures such as this can be found? They don't have to be high resolution, but if they are, that's a definite plus!

All I can suggest is Renderosity or maybe Deviant Art (deviantart.com?). You may have to search through some chaff, but you can find some real nice work on those sites.

Don't mind being more specific, I have a lot. It seems 99% of the landscape pics I've got are with mostly skies. Do you want any special animals, have them in landscapes as well? Any kind of landscapes?

The second image in this (the greyscale cat) is just gorgeous. I would so use a larger version of that as my desktop wallpaper (sorry Alyson Hannigan, you've had your time :P ) - so beautiful...
Also Angel, if you want to search through Renderosity, I can suggest a few artists (that I liked, anyway): Morris, Turtle, ToxicAngel, and Skooldaze all do very impressive work, I think.

is your friend. Hit F11 to maximise the screen, then hit the + or - keys to stretch/shrink it to the size you want(ideally, full screen), hit print screen, paste to Paint/Adobe/whatever, and VOILA, instant wallpaper!
My background is Eliza Dushku right now, so I won't be changing it just yet. ;)

I would recommend printing small pieces to check the colour/contrast/etc right, although you probably know that already.
I don't know of many of these which have a background picture, it would get kind of over-dominant, and it's hard to find something that huge. A texture/pattern in a light tone (as in not so visible), of trees or clouds maybe? I could try to look up that, or piece lots of pics together?

As it were, I was so happy with the triptych after your generous contribution, I decided I'm going to take a small trip out to Ikea and purchase myself another triptych. I was wondering *cough*, whether you would be able to find it in your heart to advise me again on which pictures to include. Your taste apparently coincides with mine :)
Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.
(No offence to everyone else. I loved those pictures as well. I found a picture on one of the other sites which I'm using as my desktop, but it just doesn't sit well on my wall.)

However, I'm not 100% certain I'll be able to use any of them. I'll have to download a few of the pictures and see how they look when I enlarge them; to see whether they keep their focus or not. The problem with pictures that small is that they may lose some of its attraction once it's blown up 50%..
My goodness! I kind of posted everything I loved, I'm empty now. And that thing took 2 hours, or maybe it was 4. :blink:
