Upgrading Items and level requirements

If I were to say upgrade a regular unique to a exceptional unique using the cube, how would I know what level req it is at? How about the rare upgrade recipes.

Harder (possibly innacurate) way: Find out what the minimun level requirement is of the upgraded item type with those mods. Upgrading to exceptional, add 5, to upgrade to elite, add 7. This works for rares, too. If you stick a rune or something in it, if the rune level req. is higher than the unsocketed level req., it will become the new "base". Add 5 or 7 to the rune level to get the required level.
