Mephisto tactics
#1
Heya all,

Just thought I'd ask the following question, how do you guys generally deal with Mephisto ? I ask because I've been suffering quite a few deaths to him recently and because, I've been tending to take him on at range, over the lake of blood, and do not have a very good idea how to do it close up, and I have two characters, one a pally, and one a HC druid, who will be facing him fairly soon and some advice would be helpful in this area

In particular which resists are best maxed against him. From what I know it's cold & lightning , right? is there any particular equipment that would be good for fighting him ?
Any advice much appreciated.

Stormshield. Quite apart from the high def, and damage reduction, it gives high resists to both cold and lightning.

What kind of Paladin? If it's a hammerdin, set off a bunch of hammers, then lure meph towards them.

Anything that will chill meph is always helpful.

A melee character has problems with poison and his (new) Frost Nova. A distance character needs to watch out for the Cold Orb, and perhaps the lightning attacks. Well, actually, the poison isn't that threatening, just annoying. Cold and Lightning are the resists to get maxed.

UnrealShadow, StormShield is SOOOOO easy to find, :P

Hmmm, Stormshield isn't really an option - both characters are in Normal Act III, which kind of rules that out.

The Paladin is a Freeze Zealot, so in that case, doesn't sound like he should have that much of a problem. It's actually the HC druid I'm more worried about. And when did Mephisto get Frost Nova and Blizzard (according to the Arreat Summit) ? Was it 1.10 or earlier ?

What type of druid are you playing? This depends a lot on which advice is good and which is not :)

The paladin should be fine if you beef up those Lightning and Cold resists. Poison too if you can. (if not, there's always antidote potions)
And you do not ask the cost...

It's a Wind Druid, Specialising in AB and Tornado. I reckon by the time I reach Meph, Tornado should be at 3 or 4 (Plus I have a + 3 Tornado Antlers too). AB is at about 10, and I also have Cyclone Armour at 4.

He also has some Minion Support - Oak Sage and Direwolves.

You got cyclone armour. Meph is dead. He cannot touch you, it's game over. Just do recast it at times, and watch out for the poison.
By the way, restart the character :) AB is buggy, and even if it was not it does little to compliment a windy build. I'd love to like it but it's crap.

Uh... where did I say it wasn't easy to find? Incidently, where does it drop? I've never had one before.

1.10. He doesn't use Blizzard until Hell, and then only at range (AFAIK). Watch out for it when you get there, though! I've nearly been killed by it in hc when he cast it through a wall and quite some distance away.

From my experience, he will only cast blizzard if he does not have direct line of sight to a target. The problem is that he will occassionally cast several blizzards on top of each other, and they can be quite deadly. Too bad he's not affected by spell timers.

A good way to get him to cast blizzard is to run past the archways near the chest behind Meph. As you run in and out of his sight behind the archways, he will usually cast several blizzards.

Oh, that's right. I'd forgotten about the stacking. I had slivered him in the right-hand room, and ran out to get an EXP shrine as well as TP and grab my mf gear for the kill. As I was running up along that wall, overlapping Blizzards slammed me and slowed me down to a crawl. If I'd had CBF, I don't think it would have been particularly dangerous.
