unable to save character file

everytime i try to play my game i get the message that the character file is unsaved and when i start a new game it still doesn't save it. how can i fix this? i am running windows XP

What version of Diablo are you using? Also, what are your privileges under XP?

Check the files. They may be read only via permissions or file setting.
