The best cube-recipes
#1
I'm lost!

1.10 has totally changed everything. I thought chipped gems were the best ones, but a friend told me that if you cubed a sword with 3 flawless instead of 3 chipped, you'd get a higher level affixes. Is this correct?

What other recipes should I use to make good items? There are so many recipes, I can't figure out which one to use!

*confused*
(We need a "confused"-smilie, but for now, " :o " will do.)

edit: I'm looking to make a high-dmg sword and a high def armor for my merc. Are there any recipes which keep the ethereal-mod?

No.

The chippy recipe gives ilvl 25, while the standard and flawless recipes give ilvl 30. However, this only makes a difference for very low-qlvl items. You're likely going to reroll cruelable weapons only, and for these, the recipes all give the same affix pool.

There are recipes that keep etherealness, such as the socketing recipes. However, there are no recipes that keep the etherealness while rerolling an item.

So to my first question, it doesn't matter whether I use chipped, normal or flawless, I'll basically get the same stuff anyway?

Correct. The only significant difference between the recipes is the input. Obviously, the type of gem is difference. Also, chipped/flawless recipes work on magic items (which may or may not have sockets), while the standard recipe works on socketed items (which may or may not be magic).

The output for all three is practically equivalent.

I found a cruel great sword. Is there a way to "upgrade" this to the exceptional or elite version while keeping the cruel prefix?

If it's magical (blue), no. Only rares (yellow) and uniques (gold) can be upgraded.
Don't worry. You won't feel a thing...until I jam this down your throat!
