The hastings1066 site identified my browser (IE6 SP1) as "very old" and tried to prevent the images from being shown. For anyone else with old browsers the tapestry panels are:

through

Clearly the Bayeux Tapestry could not have been an inspiration for DII as in at least two panels, two-handed axes are being used one-handed.

A portion of the Tapestry can be seen on a wall in the cathedral in act 1.
As to the original question; I'm not sure I fully understand what you're asking as I think the first link isn't loading correctly and I can't find a similar marking on the tapestry.

I had never looked that closely before, but the specific part of the tapestry in the cathedral is that showing Halley's comet:

which corresponds to to the hastings1066 panels 14 and 15:

Rinnhart, what did you mean by "similar marking"? I can't figure out your reference. Similar to what?
Lilian, could you please try sending your first link again? It has apparently been truncated, and I don't know enough about how the board software works to help. Maybe one of the administrators could offer a suggestion? You could try breaking the URL over two or more lines so that we could cut and paste.
Having nothing to do with diablo, other than the reference to Halley, here is an image of the recent venus transit that I photographed:

Nifty photo.
The "marking" appears to be a result of a link/forum/browser conflict. I had assumed it was someone's attempt to transcribe something from the tapestry.

Picture 1:
The pictures theme is taken directly from the Diablo 2 storyline (the bound Tal Rasha being pierced by Baal's soulstone) so it is obviously created by a Blizzard artist.
It is, however, clearly made to look like an ancient egyptian artwork. The picture just to the left shows a hero facing a horde of skeletons. As far as I know there we no animate skeletons in actual egyption myths.
Picture 2:
This seems to be a section of the Bayeux Tapestry. It seems somewhat out of place in the headquarters of an all-female order of warrior-monks (or should I say warrior-nuns). It was probably placed there to give the place a suitable "medieval feel".
Picture 3:
The act 3 architecture is very ancient South American in style (perhaps with a bit of Angkor Wat thrown in) so for the mural pictures they have probably thrown in some pictures from the famous "codexes". A series of handwritten richly illustrated books created by a few native americans to preserve the memory of their conquered culture.
Picture 4:
These scribbles are obviously created by a Blizzard artist. The left one depicts a Grotesque spewing forth a lightning ball.
They are probably meant to resemble Fallen One art since they often appear together with pack of fallen ones (carvers, etc.).
