I don't really use any of these out loud. sometimes I think in terms of "making someone an offer they can't refuse".

It is amazing how many of these quotes show up in computer games. The "gin joints" one and the "keep your friends close", I thought werewere just expressions that got put in lords of magic. Never thought they were movie quotes.

The thing is, the TV special that they showed to present this list was 3 hrs long. I didn't realize when it started at 8 that I was in for plenty of yaking between each clip. By the end I was yelling at the host (Pierce Brosnan, for anyone who didn't see) to "hurry up and get to the footage, pretty boy!"

I was dissapointed that "Kaiser Soze" didn't make it, and also that the only line from Airplane! was the "... and don't call me Shirley." I was hoping for the "I picke the wrong week to ..." series. Also kind of surprising was the abscence of one of the opening lines of Goodfellas (Sp?) "All I ever wanted to be was a gangster" (YMMV)

It is an evil of Titanic proportions that "King of the World" was included and not a SINGLE quote from Princess Bride was included. Bah, Bah, and triple Bah!
*Spaulding!*

"Vinzinni, I don't think that word means what you think it means."
"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

Glad I did not watch, also glad to see how well represented Casablanca was. That little film added so many good lines to the common vernacular . . .

No Blues Brothers quotes. Screw them and all they stand for. Filthy little blighters.

And I second Occhi. No Princess Bride quotes.

Somebody needs to go "jog" their memory.
All alone, or in twos,
The ones who really love you
Walk up and down outside the wall.
Some hand in hand
And some gathered together in bands.
The bleeding hearts and artists
Make their stand.

And when they've given you their all
Some stagger and fall, after all it's not easy
Banging your heart against some mad buggers wall.

"Isn't this where...."

Do I make you horny baby? (austin powers)

you know how they call a quarter pounder with cheese in paris? (pulp fiction)
(or something like that)

The Lord works in mysterious ways...

You must have needed a pick me up.

Speaking of Blues Brothers quotes, they needed this pair:

"Nazis. I hate these guys." -Indiana Jones
"Illinois Nazis. I hate these guys." -Blues Brothers

I don't care much for nazis either. I don't view them as being human... So it's easy to stick to my pacifist views while I beat the stuffing out of them.

What was that line from Sin City? About hitmen? I like hitmen, no matter what you do to them, you don't feel bad? Something like that. Yeah.

And congrats to both of us for Godwinising this thread. Do we get prizes?

Let me second this! That, and I've never seen the vast majority of movies quoted here. Oh, and nit, it's "You keep using that word. I do not think..."

Some of my personal favorites:

"What's this? You're wearing the shirt of the band you're going to see? Don't be that guy." - PCU

"Michael, I did nothing. I did absolutely nothing, and it was everything I thought it could be." - Office Space

"I had to go to prison to become a criminal." - The Shawshank Redemption
Trade yourself in for the perfect one. No one needs to know that you feel you've been ruined!

Glad I did not watch, also glad to see how well represented Casablanca was.  That little film added so many good lines to the common vernacular . . .

Agreed, on all counts ! "Round up the usual suspects." gets used occasionally around here when evidence of a 'crime' is found and there is no immediately obvious culprit. ;)

Another personal couple of favourites come from "The 13th Warrior".

"Cavalry? I'd rather there was a dragon."
"It's all right, little brother. There are more!"

OTOH, one that I have actually used more than once in dealing with the sons (right after they have tried the lawyer route on rule interpretation <_< ):

"What we've got here is failure to communicate," Cool Hand Luke, 1967

I know nice from right.

Pricess Bride and Blues Brothers, had so many good quotes.

A quote I use every now and again, is from the movie "The Way of the Gun":

"A plan is just a list of things that'll never happen."

Signature? What do you mean?

Hello,

IMDb says:
Quote:The funny thing is - on the outside, I was an honest man, straight as an arrow. I had to come to prison to be a crook.
Just a minor nit.

Why did I have the bad feeling that "I am the king of the world" would make it in this... When I got to quote number 90, or so, my hopes... Raised so high... Only to be dashed at 100.

For me, its clearly "Open the pod bay doors, HAL!"

Hi,

How about:

"I kick arse for the Lord!" - Father McGruder; Braindead

"And shepherds we shall be, for thee my Lord for thee, Power hath descended forth from thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command, we shall flow a river forth to thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In nomine patris, et filii et spiritus sancti." - Connor, Murphy; The Boondock Saints

"Did you understand a single word of what he just said?" - Turkish; Snatch

"Don't think. Feeeeeeeel. It is like a finger pointing away to the moon." - Bruce Lee; Enter The Dragon

Yes! I find myself quoting both those movies all too often.
The Monty Python flicks are full of quotable bits. I use them all the time.
There's some good weird quotes in Repo Man too. Like this:

Quote:A lot o' people don't realize what's really going on. They view life as a bunch o' unconnected incidents 'n things. They don't realize that there's this, like, lattice o' coincidence that lays on top o' everything. Give you an example; show you what I mean: suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconsciousness.

Krishta
who cannot understand why they didn't put at least one quote from The Princess Bride in that list... What were they thinking?!?!

It's because they are all worthless hacks.
All alone, or in twos,
The ones who really love you
Walk up and down outside the wall.
Some hand in hand
And some gathered together in bands.
The bleeding hearts and artists
Make their stand.

And when they've given you their all
Some stagger and fall, after all it's not easy
Banging your heart against some mad buggers wall.

"Isn't this where...."
