Hunter Pet Information
#1
I learned via Mania's Arcania, Armory Data Mining, and some experimentation that hunter pet original NPC names are available from the armory! One has to view the page source of the character's talents and glyphs tab.

Thus Woad's pets are shown to be:

Mist Howler
Loque'nahak
Ressan the Needler
Broken Tooth
Spirit of Koosu

It is interesting to me that the game has kept track of this information.

This was noted in the gnomer forum awhile ago where a bug can cause people to see the original name of your pet.

Any idea what makes the bug happen? I have been playing essentially every day for more than five years, longer than hunters have existed, and I have never noticed a pet with the silver dragon icon in all that time. And since last year when Ruvanal brought it to my attention I have been running with the SilverDragon mod on all my characters.

The thinking from the Gnomeregan topic was that the game might be identifying the pet from its skin, but now we know the game tracks not only the pet's original name but also its npcId.

Man, I'd forgotten I had tamed Shy-Rotam for my cat pet.

Checking this has brought something else to my attention, namely that pets have variables available for three talent trees, yet only uses treeOne regardless.

It's also brought attention to the fact that Cannis has been automagically despecced again. Grr. He was my active pet when I changed to BM to catch Gondria, and I know I specced him.
When in mortal danger,
When beset by doubt,
Run in little circles,
Wave your arms and shout.

The bug finally happened for me! Not only were pets showing their original names, the beasts were their original size. This effect only happened in K3, and I saw it with three pets in the course of about half an hour. Silver Dragon reported one as rare, and the hunter I was partied with had Gutripper, with the golden dragon portrait.

There may be something odd about K3, as my hunter was once whispered that the worm she had at the time was huge, its head sticking way above the roof of the K3 inn.

I don't think lag could have had much to do with the bug, because my latency was low and there was hardly anyone in K3 at the time.
