During a trip into Blackrock Spire today, one of the orc warlocks dropped the Grimoire of Inferno. Sure, it was BoP, but it did drop for us even with the quest in place to learn how to summon an infernal. Not sure whether this is a bug or feature, but it could mean you would be able to get the minion without doing the quest.
And if you learn it with the Grimoire... I wonder if the quest is even available?
