My mom made an internet mistake :(

When my wife and I visit my parents, we like to get a deck of cards out and play. Sometimes we play Euchre, but more often than not we play a card game called (pardon my French) Asshole. It's a pretty fun game and it lasts all night, or until my dad's homemade wine runs out.

The last time we visited with my parents my mom was telling me that she was trying to recall the rules for Asshole, so she turned to the internet for a refresher. I could see where this was heading. Oh mom :(

Yeah, she typed the search string "asshole" into whatever websearch tool she uses and clicked the first page of links looking for the rules to the card game of the same name. There are some things on the internet that mothers shouldn't be exposed to. My mom has survived this trauma and is now a more internet-savvy person for doing so.

Actually, I just met with some french people and they taught me this game. I already knew how to play another version of it, called Hops. But in Asshole, I played and got to be president in a 5 person hand, so the asshole had to give me 2 cards. Then we got more people, and I won again, getting 3 cards this time with 7 players. At one point, I had 4 2s, 3 Aces, and 3 Kings. I went out in 3 turns.


In Hops, 4s are high, 5s are low. To start, everyone plays their 5s, and the 5 of clubs gets the extra card (if playing with 3 ppl) and gets to go first. If someone gets 4 of a kind, they can play it on top of the 4 5s, since anything beats a 5, but you have to have 4 of a kind. If someone plays a single, the only cards you can play are singles. Same goes for doubles and triples. The only card that can beat a 4 is another 4, and a 3 can't beat a 3. The winner gets the loser's highest card, and the winner can give the loser any card he wants.

It's quite fun.

Try playing Bull#$%& instead. The rules are simpler, and if you do an Internet search, you're more likely to come up with ranches or dairy farms than porn. Although there's no way to be sure except by trying.
