Trick or Treat!

My Night Elf Druid just got this "Flimsy female Undead Mask" from the Innkeeper in Southshore (soulbound, lasts 7 days) :)

The "Wickerman Festival" near the Ruins of Lordaeron/Undercity - The quest is available for Alliance in Southshore/Hillsbrad, and yields 6600 experience and a nice Halloween surprise for just spying out the location (must get close enough to the center of that location). Beware the nearby level 60 elite guards, though. Rather easy for Rogues and Druids ;)

I did get 2 gnome masks (1 male, 1 female), a stick that transforms partymembers into ghosts, which sadly does not work on yourself, and got transformed into a Lepergnome.

No masks, but I got the wand to turn party mates into things. Next raid's gonna be amusing.

Got up to the UC and jumped in with a party attempting to kill that elite undead chick at the foot of the Whickerman. Damn those aboms repop fast! Killing them spawns an ash pile that can be "smeared on your face like warpaint". This gives an insane 25% buff to mana regen, life regen, and stamina for 2 hours.

And the Undercity itself? Freaking awesome. I've always been fond of the UC's surreal atmosphere, but the pumpkins filling the central chamber are fantastic. And then there's that MONSTER in the throne room.

An hour wasn't enough, I can't wait for the servers to come back up.

Oh, I've been missing that one. Back to UC ... :)

Eating the quest reward pumpkins from the "Wickerman Festival" quest transforms my Night Elf Druid into a Pirate. Interesting for Druids: When my (female) Druid shapeshifts while the "pumpkin buff" is active, the Pirate toon is kept, no matter if she shifts into Bear, Cat, Travel, Aquatic or Moonkin form, and she cannot mount or fly while the buff is active. It's the same behavior as with the Orb of Deception. Also, if she shifts between Druid forms, she becomes a male Pirate if she was a female one before, and vice versa. I consider this to be a bug, though.

...whereas the horde quests invite you to go and be free honor for the alliance in southshore. One of the quests is absolutely demented; we have to let off three stinkbombs in the middle of southshore, and _they cannot be used in combat_. They also have a 2.5 second cast time or thereabouts, and you get flagged for pvp when you start casting.

Yeah, that's really fun, and not just mindlessly frustrating.

Here are a couple screenshots of the PvPish quests Horde characters are given for the Halloween festivities.

The first one is to throw three stink bombs into the middle of Southshore. This is tougher than it sounds, because you can't throw them while in combat, and there are lots of Alliance players around who are eager to spoil Horde players' fun. I managed to complete it by sneaking around along the southeast side of the town and going along the south wall of the inn. I got two stink bombs off before being aggroed by both guards and players. After getting away, I came back and let off my final stink bomb before being hounded by Alliance players. I ran into the inn and died there to prepare for the next quest.

This quest is to place rotten eggs into the ale casks in the main room of the Southshore inn. You can see the pyramid stale of ale casks in the back of the room in this screenshot and it's only the top cask that you can click on. Of course, Alliance players hang out here waiting for Horde players to try to complete this quest (and there were several more players behind and to the sides of me than are shown in this screenshot). I completed this quest by walking up to the casks, rezing, casting a psychic scream, and clicking really fast.

The rotten apple that you get from Nathanos has that same effect when changing stances as a warrior: I'd change stances, and change appearance (and sometimes gender  ) as well.

This is also true for the alliance at least, haven't done it horde side, when you get the quest after doing stuff in scholo to sneak into the scarlet stronghold and do the escort or Tirion's dad. If you stance change while under the disguise the gnome puts on you, you can end up changing gender.

I kinda like all the pumpkins sitting around the cities and such. But then, I've always liked Halloween stuff.

Here's the ginormo pumpkin sitting in the Lordaeron Throne Room. That... doesn't fit too well with the whole 'king was murdered two feet away from here' thing, but it's cool anyway.

I checked out the Brill Inn for a minute, and quite enjoyed the bobbing for apples, and the decorations everywhere, before I ported out to Orgrimmar and flew to Crossroads to help out a friend of mine who was getting camped. (Don't know why he didn't just wait for his flag to run out, seeing as it's horde territory. But I got to kill a 60 shadow priest, so I can't complain.)

Flimsy Male Orc Masks seem pretty common in the horde inns. Especially funny when a male orc is wearing a male orc mask. I can just hear the endless legions of night elf rogues (can't spit without hitting three of them simultaneously on Gorefiend) sprinting away from 'teh mean orc monstir.' (Disclaimer: Yes, yes. Night elf rogues can be relatively sane and normal people too. But there are so many of them there's gotta be some assclowns. And I like to get revenge on them for the time I threw down a frost nova in Un'Goro and caught three night elf rogues within stabbing distance of me. That is just not cool.)

I'd agree if the second alliance quest wasn't to clean up the stink bombs. I think I've seen one actually make it into town, and it was mobbed by a crowd of febreeze-wielding gnomes.

The second horde quest's just stupid.

Here are some tips on completing the stink-bomb quest as a Horde. The key problem for Horde is that you can't set off the stink bombs while in combat, so here are some ways to get around that problem:

1. First, remove your gear before attempting this quest. There's no way around the fact that you're going to die multiple times and some of those times you will be killed by NPC's.

2. If you're level 60, it's pretty straightforward to do this quest, because there are plenty of places in town where you can walk into and/or rez without aggroing guards. I personally got my stink bombs off by approaching the town from the southeast, dodging Southshore guards the whole time, and entering Southshore along the south side of the inn. You have to set the bombs off near the main road or square, which is a pain, but as you can see in my screenshots above, you don't have to quite be out in the main open area to do it.

3. At level 60, if worse comes to worst, you rez, set off one stink bomb, die to alliance, and corpse run. Repeat three times.

However, on my level 41 alt, things were much more difficult, because at that level, you aggro Southshore guards immediately almost anywhere in town and can't set off your stink bombs. However, there are still things you can do:

4. Use invisibility potions. Potions of Lesser Invisibility are cheap to make and my character happened to be an alchemist, so to get past Southshore's outer defences, I used a potion of Lesser Invisibility to run past the guards and toss out my first stink bomb in town (and died immediately afterwards). There are several places in town where you can rez safely -- in the town hall and upstairs in the inn come to mind -- so you can rez, drink another invisibility potion, run to the main square, and set off another stink bomb. Unfortunately, invisibility potions have 10 minute cooldown timers, so this is a slow method.

5. Even better, however, is to group up. A group my level 41 alt ended up joining figured out something intriguing -- you get quest credit for anyone in your party who manages to set off stink bombs. Also, if the guards are aggroed on one person, they won't aggro on others who rez until the first person dies. So, ideally, you have a four person team. One person rezes first and then the other three immediately rez and throw their stink bombs. All four people die, but they all get credit for throwing three stink bombs.

6. A guildmate figured out that the entrance hallway of the inn is out of line of sight of any guards and yet you can throw stink bombs into the street from there. That seems like the obvious place to try as long as no Alliance hunters in the area figure that out and place any freeze traps there.

In comparison, the egg quest is easy. Rez by the kegs and click fast on the top keg. Make sure that you have fast quest text scrolling selected in your interface options.
