Can anyone suggest a good MIDI editor?

I am getting bored of my cordless phone's default ringtone selection. My choices are limited to "We Will Rock You", the James Bond theme, "All the Small Things" by blink182, "Lady Marmalade", "What a Girl Wants" , and the theme from Rocky. I'd like to change it to something different.

My phone came with a USB cable and some software, so I have the ability to transfer ringtones in MIDI format to my phone. I've been playing around with it for about an hour tonight. The problem is that the software kind of sucks as far as MIDI editting goes. I can set start times and end times, but only to the nearest second. I have a bunch of MIDI files that I like, but I only want certain portions of them.

What I am looking for is an idiot-proof visual MIDI editor, preferably freeware. It must allow me to extract up to a 30 second portion of a long MIDI file, and edit out unwanted notes (I have a kick ass Mario MIDI, but it seems to include random coin-collecting "ding" noises which I find annoying).

SUPER BONUS REQUEST!

Suggest to me some cool and memorable music that might be availble as a MIDI, suitable for a home phone's ringtone. I like old-school video game music, cheesy 80's stuff, and anything Canadiana. I have specifically been looking for the short tune in Zelda when you find a secret area, but without any luck. I've also not been able to find a decent Hockey Night in Canada theme. Links to any and all favourite MIDI files will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a bunch. Your first link led me to JazzWare, which is exactly what I was looking for.

I made this from a longer Mario MIDI in just a few seconds.
