Seriously. You'll want this one.

If he doesn't want it, can I have it?

Good lord, we already have enough people mistaking their bedside revolvers for telephone handsets.

Darwin would be proud. Or something. Probably not proud in a sense but...
When in mortal danger,
When beset by doubt,
Run in little circles,
Wave your arms and shout.

Bit disturbing. It is, in every aspect to my eyes, obviously a weapon designed for assassination.

Disguising a gun as something harmless is an act that carries malicious intent, there is no noble nor highly moral reason to do so in a state of peace. Hardly a weapon of self-defense, but rather one designed for a sneak attack— a pre-emptive, offensive action.

Er, well, that's kinda awesome.

I have a couple of decoy guns. That would be spiffy to keep in a display case, next to the camera gun, the lipstick gun, and the other odd guns.

And yeah, something like that is pretty much designed for assassins.
All alone, or in twos,
The ones who really love you
Walk up and down outside the wall.
Some hand in hand
And some gathered together in bands.
The bleeding hearts and artists
Make their stand.

And when they've given you their all
Some stagger and fall, after all it's not easy
Banging your heart against some mad buggers wall.

I'd have a real problem if these things are advertised as defense arms. It's implicit with self-defense that you are being attacked by someone else. Then, not only is it prudent and moral, but it is tactically sound that you let that other someone know that if they commit to the attack, they're going to be aired out in high-caliber fashion. The whole running up the ensign before you open a broadside, and whatnot.

I have no qualms about concealed-carry or self-defense arms in general. It's all in a sense of fair play and practicality to defuse (or defeat) a hostile situation in your favor, and that is accomplished by an overt display of power.

This thing is designed to get a gun pointed at a person without them knowing you have a gun pointed at them. There's nothing defensive about that.

And if the intended purpose of this disguise is to remain armed in a society that prohibits self-defense weapons, what happens after the smoke settles and you have to make good on the report? Just how turning over a gun disguised as a cellphone is any better than handing over a small-frame 5-shot revolver? You're going to get boned either way, but the one is worse in the eyes of the law than the other.

Um... No. What you do is slide your cell phone back in to your purse and say that some random stranger came out of nowhere and defended you. Give the police a random vague discription. And be done with it.

There is if you keep this as a fallback in case you're overpowered and disarmed.

Too circumstantial to work all the time, any time (or even most of the time). If you've been overpowered and disarmed, it is all the more likely you're now incapable nor prepared to make use of the any weapon, much less one that's disguised as a cellphone (something the assailant will take to prevent you from calling 911).

True that.

The cell phone thing is a rather poor skin for this sort of ruse really.

A cane is rather nice. Nobody would take an old man's cane away from him.

And lipstick guns, well, as strange as those seem, they are quite popular and work out all to well.

"You are going to rape me? Oh, well, would you mind if I put on a fresh coat of lipstick?"

"No, don't mind at all. Please do ma'am."

"BAM!"

"Ooof!"

Cause uh, men are dumb enough to believe that women like rape. So the putting on a fresh coat of lipstick thing only turns them on even more.

If you want to argue this isn't a very good skin for a hidden weapon, sure. I was mostly aiming at your apparent general dislike of non-obvious weapons, and pointing that yes, weapons that don't look like weapons and are designed to strike by surprise do have uses for self defense.
