It's smacking the crap out of anything else out there, including dual-card Crossfire and SLI setups (no 8800GTX in SLI have been tested yet). It gets 21fps in Oblivion at 2560x1600 resolution with every bit of graphical eye candy turned all the way up. It's also HUGE, measuring 11" long.

Sigh. You know your computer is showing its age when new video cards have more dedicated memory than it has RAM! Thanks for the link DeeBye, the new D10 video card boom is upon us!
DeeBye, the Newegg link is currently a dead one for me. Searching their site for a 8800GTX shows up blank as well, perhaps it was pulled temporarily for some reason?

No, it still works for me. You can't find them by searching though. Try this link, which lists a BFG 8800GTX.

That video card is 11" long! It wouldn't even fit in my case, unless I lopped off the bottom hard drive bay.
I'm definitely going to wait until I see a budget gaming card, like a 8600GS or something, in the pipeline.

It is even more intresting to note that a processor today has more cache (that would even be true for the L1 cache I think, for the L2 you have to go back much less years) than computers had in total back in the days when people started to get them at home.
Of course, these new cards also means I can no longer flash my 7900 cards with the same enthusiasm any more. Oh well, it was good for a few weeks...

I was waiting for you to post something. You picked the exact wrong time to buy a new video card. Your 7900GTX is old and busted. The 8800GTX is the new hotness.

Actually I don't really care and doubt I will really hit the "limit" for the card I got. Right now I am playing football manager 2007 and I can assure you it doesn't put that much stress on the graphics. As far as I am concerned, no matter when you buy something in a short while there will be something much better. To be honest, I really had no idea exactly what card I bought or how good it was, I made an upgrade mostly based on how much money I thought I could spend and thought I should make a lrger upgrade on the graphics and picked that card. I had no idea how good (or bad) it was until I looked for updated drivers. So I am quite happy and will continue to be so.
