BNM and shrines

I just started a BNM and was wondering if I can use shrines? And if yes, am I obligated to use shrines like fascinating? I could not find this in the "rule book." I'm guessing you do not have to use it, but i'm not sure.

Since there are no shrine restrictions in the BNM rules, you may use or avoid using any shrine as you wish. Using religious shrines to help your cursed gear survive additional battles is strongly encouraged.

Basically, if it isn't in the rules you can do whatever you want -- myself, I hate those variants that read like a legal contract -- but if you're really into the spirit of the thing you will cherish your most horrible cursed item as if it were a perfect awesome plate of the stars.:)
