If you define a democracy as a dictatorship that exploits US interests for it's own gain, then it's very reasonable to request that Pakistan "restore democracy'.

Saudi Arabia is a democratic country also, but Iraq seems to be going disturbingly against the flow.

Unfortunately this isn't much of a shock.
As an independent event, I'd cut the Bush administration more slack - after all, all world political events require either silence or condemnation, and often times the condemning is more of a formality in the world arena than anything meaningful.
In this case though, it's yet another case of the unbalanced relationship the US has with both Afghanistan and Pakistan. On one hand, every interaction can be boiled down to the question 'what do we get out of it?'. But on the other hand, the Bush administration has done a fine job of making it abundantly transparent 'our interests are trump'. And in the case of the -stans, when we don't have a specific interest, their needs often fall on deaf ears.
Scratch our back, and maybe we'll consider scratching yours whenever it suits us.
Cheers,
Munk

Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much.

Can't lose what you never had.
(The Allman Bothers Band)
Can't restore it either, "it" being what you never had.

Who are they bothering? Why are they bothering them? Was something they did so important that the Allman Brothers had to make a band to preach this bothersomeness out loud? :whistling:

Right. Next we'll be shocked at the lack of human rights practiced in Saudi Arabia, or Turkey.
