You are right, and she just channels "we are victims and need government help" well.

Romney is out. Looking at the CNN footage, the guy looks almost relieved. Maybe it's just me though.

His parting words about 'not surrendering to Terror' sounds like an unofficial, coded way of endorsing McCain. Again, maybe I'm just reading too much into it.

Not going to dump this on those "across the pond" that easily, although clearly there is enough stupidity to cross oceans with gas left over.

There's a quote for the month, for February.

Well played, Jester.

Romney's quit speech ticked me off.

Quote:I am convinced that unless America changes course, we will become the France of the 21st century

Quote:And to me, that is unthinkable. Simon Peres, in a visit to Boston, was asked what he thought about the war in Iraq. “First,” he said, “I must put something in context. America is unique in the history of the world. In the history of the world, whenever there has been conflict, the nation that wins takes land from the nation that loses. One nation in history, and this during the last century, laid down hundreds of thousands of lives and took no land. No land from Germany, no land from Japan, no land from Korea. America is unique in the sacrifice it has made for liberty, for itself and for freedom loving people around the world.” The best ally peace has ever known, and will ever know, is a strong America!

We had no allies during WWII, we don't have bases all over the world, we're not in another country right now, we didn't take the Marianas, and, oh, since it was two centuries ago we'll just ignore Guam, Puerto Rico, Texas ...

Quote:And tolerance for pornography—even celebration of it—and sexual promiscuity, combined with the twisted incentives of government welfare programs have led to today’s grim realities: 68% of African American children are born out-of-wedlock, 45% of Hispanic children, and 25% of White children.

Quote:It is time for the people of America to fortify marriage through constitutional amendment, so that liberal judges cannot continue to attack it!

Quote:Europe is facing a demographic disaster. That is the inevitable product of weakened faith in the Creator, failed families, disrespect for the sanctity of human life and eroded morality.

Quote:They would retreat and declare defeat. And the consequence of that would be devastating. It would mean attacks on America, launched from safe havens that make Afghanistan under the Taliban look like child’s play. About this, I have no doubt.

Nothing like fear mongering.

Quote:But I agree with him on doing whatever it takes to be successful in Iraq, on finding and executing Osama bin Laden, and on eliminating Al Qaeda and terror.

Right to trial? What's that?

Those are all nauseating sections of his speech but the part that nearly made me #$%& myself was when he said we spend more money on "entitlement programs" than the "national offense". This mentality of a national offense just pisses me off. I think we've done more than enough to Offend the rest of the world.

People that say these kind of things should stay away from jobs in which they need to make decisions about other people's lives. It seems to me that Mr.Romney would be perfectly happy to live in Afghanistan....exact same mentality there. Maybe he should do all of us a favor and move there.

I wouldn't get too upset about a speech where a far right guy is pandering to the right fringe. Try listening to a Hillary speech when she's talking to feminists, or her far left socialist fringe. Both sides sound insane around the edges.
Quote:Right to trial? What's that?
The nationalists would point out that Osama is not a citizen and is not guaranteed rights, however for well learned people such as us, we can see deeper to the intent of why this nation declared its independance, and set up a bill of rights. This nation was built as an experiment to see if the noble estate of individual liberty "of the people, by the people, for the people" would work, and the basis for it all was a belief that our rights are endowed upon us by our creator and which we call inalienable. This nation is suppost to stand for all human dignity, and equal justice. I think our founders are spinning in their graves at witness of the trampling of liberties that are perpetrated upon people, inside and outside of this nation by this United States. Not of the people, because only the privileged few can get into office these days. And its not by the people, because those pandering politicians cater to the whims of their special interests and ignore the majorities. And its not for the people, but for the privileged few and to those special interests by whose myopic self interest allows these unscrupulous usurpers to tenaciously hold onto their power. This is why we have no rights, why we have Trillions of dollars of debt, and why the economy is in the toilet.

So, no, I wouldn't guess most people would want Osama summarily executed if he can be taken alive to stand trial -- presumably at the Hague. But, I think the biggest trouble with that scenario is that no nation trusts the others enough to surrender sovereignty to any international body, especially when they've become corrupted, and hyper political. Many people view war itself as a crime, so how can they be objective of which warriors are legal or illegal? No nation whose been at war in the past 250 years smells very good.

It's okay, he's out. My prediction for the final vote: Hilliary Rodman Clintin vs. John McCain, with a few guaranteed non-winning space-filler candidates sprinkled between. I think my views are more democratic by nature, however my vote will be for Ron Paul if he is still around near election time.

A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for Ralph Nader.;) I admire his scrappiness, but he has a significant shortcoming. No depth in his political network.

I get your comparison, but it's not like Nader is running this time anyway.

Well, you have Geert Wilders if we want to compare apples to apples.

Well he is not religious in his politics (private I am not sure but I guess he would be some kind of believer....catholic most likely), he is more anti-religious with 100% of his focus going to the Islam.

The only reason this religious issue comes up over here is because the press is not denied from attending religious functions and then reporting on what a person might be saying in that context. You might imagine that if Geert was speaking to a room of Catholic Cardinals and Bishops he might shape his message differently. This is the scam of the likes of Micheal Moore, when the target of the propaganda is captured firing up the base of support and then edited to take it out of context to make that person seem like a crack pot. It seems that in the news media of today, packaging(with a slant) is more important than content. Romney's failing was that Huckabee and McCain were working together against him. Huckabee will get some kind of 2nd banana position in the McCain administration, which is a vast improvement over being top dog in Arkansas. Not meaning to demean Arkansans(as I also have relations that moved there), but Governor of Arkansas is like being queen of the trailer park. The sleaze, meanness and corruption that defines Bill and Hillary is part and parcel of that part of the country. But, so is wholesome, family focused, and devoutly religious.
