I remember being nine years old and reading the manual for the brand new Sim City 2000 (released in 1994). One part of the manual stood out:

Sim City 2000 Manual Wrote:The technology levels in SimCity 2000 roughly follow reality, give or take a few years. (Except for the future stuff, which is just guessing, so don't come to us in 2050 and complain that we don't have fusion power yet.)
At the time, I thought, "If I'm still alive in 2050, I'm going to go to Maxis and I am going to complain."
The error occurred on line -1.

I always hated that my nuke plants would blow up every five years, and seemed to be tornado magnets.
