Blizzard Rleasing Startcraft Remastered
#1
Hello,

It looks as though it will function the same as the original, only with graphics in HD(up to 4k).

Enjoy!

Really wish they would do this for D1 Sad

The "remaster" they did for it in D3 last patch for the 20 year mark was a complete abomination and disrespect to the game IMO.

I'd love a D2 remaster.

They also intend to make the original StarCraft freeware, possibly by the end of this month with its new patch.

Blizzard Press Release - Brood War is free starting with v1.18

Making StarCraft freeware is not only a great way to promote the remastered edition, but also the only proper apology they could ever make to the thousands of StarCraft players whose CD-keys were stolen and constantly used/tied up by massloaders due to an exploit that has remained unpatched but abused for many years (since 2009-2010 or so)

This is a really awesome move, almost as impressive as admitting the RMAH in Diablo III was a mistake and then taking the time to remove it and try to improve the game.

Likely Diablo II and Warcraft III are next in line for an HD update and may even become freeware as well. With their most popular classic titles remastered into Battle.net 2.0 compatible editions, Blizzard could finally shut down Battle.net 1.0 with a minimum of complaint. But I fear any future for a modernized version of Diablo 1 will remain in the hands of the community and fans. Sad

They've also come up with a patch.

Quote:Valkyries will fire missiles regardless of population size
Dragoons will not freeze and require a Stop order before accepting new orders

Fixing 20 year old bugs ftw!

The depth of my disappointment can not be expressed. I was excited, I was hoping they imported a few sound files, so for instance when I found Laz I'd hear "abandon your foolish quest...". Hell even the graphic upgrade was going to be cool if nothing else. They ruined it all, especially the last.

I'd like to see Diablo 2 get this treatment in the future.

Well, Starcraft 1.18 is out, introducing some features to come in the remastered version, most likely, with the battle.net interface.

https://youtu.be/eTkTHaBpSDU I tested to see if my computer could run Brood War. Just kidding; but do run Vertical Sync or it uses computer resources for no reason. Though it is funny to run it at 1500 fps.

That reminds me of when I tested Minecraft with my gaming PC. I turned down all the graphics just to see how fast it could run.

That's exactly what I had in mind! :p I only have a 60hz monitor too so anything beyond 60 is a waste.

Though Blizzard should really consider having a lower cap by default, otherwise it might burn some older hardware.

Not entirely correct. Depending on how the game is programmed, a higher framerate can improve the smoothness of controls even if your monitor can't display all the frames.

Not really, what you're more likely to have occur is screen tearing as the frame is changing as the monitor is displaying the frames. This is the reason for things like FreeSync and GSync.
