So I am playing Hellfire with Belix's Hellfire v1.02.A4 patch.
Maybe it's me, but wasn't there player footstep sounds when you are walking around in the dungeons?
There are footstep sounds when you are walking in town, and I know if you set the option from walk to jog there aren't any footstep sounds. Aren't they supposed to be there when you are in the dungeon though?
EDIT: I can confirm that footsteps are indeed supposed to play in the dungeon because I also play The Hell, and they work in game. So does anyone else have the problem I described above, or have a fix for it?

Hello hybridmoments,
I believe the footsteps were actually removed by the Hellfire expansion itself, since it might of made a rather obnoxious racket when running through town. Unfortunately it seems someone decided to turn them off completely instead of only when running in town.
If my suspicions are correct, that means modders working on The Hell actually re-implemented the footstep behavior from Diablo, addressing the issue properly by disabling footstep sounds in town when jogging is enabled.
Someone else mentioned the missing footstep sounds in Hellfire awhile ago as well, I will try to look into this and get back to you. If it looks like it is easy to fix, I will post instructions here to get them working again so you don't have to wait until the release of v1.02.A5 to get the footsteps back.

Here you go. Navigate to the Hellfire folder with v1.02.A4 set up in it, open cowquestON.dat with a plain text editor, and copy and paste the following in an empty area at the bottom of the file:
Code:
start HF1.01 "Restore Footsteps"

end
Credit goes to Desert Dragon, who originally wrote this fix for The Hell. Since this is fresh off the anvil, I have not had time to test it extensively and cannot guarantee it won't cause any issues, but it
seems to work just fine.

Thanks so much for the response!
I never thought that people could actually become annoyed with the footstep sounds, but me being the perfectionist I am noticed that they were missing, and needed to find out if I could restore them. It doesn't feel like Diablo without the footsteps.
Unfortunately I am at work right now, but when I get home I will do this fix and test it out for a couple hours and reply here with my findings. If it turns out to be bug free, maybe this could be a patch that could get stickied in case other people want the footsteps back.
In any case, thanks again Belix!

Sorry for the double post, but the code worked. Thanks so much! I have been playing for about 2 hours and no glitches or crashes so far. Belix, you are a Diablo guru.

You're very welcome. I appreciate the compliment, but I'm just an enthusiast that picked up where much more experienced and knowledgeable people left off.
If I ever get any thread stickied in this forum, I would want it to be a compendium of code and notes covering code and notes for fixing bugs with Diablo and Hellfire. I'd have to get around to making that first, though... but I feel this information should all be captured in one location and made easily accessible to other aspiring tinkerers and modders.
Watch out when you get to the last floor of the Crypt, I'm still investigating a seemingly random crash that can occur there sometimes. If by chance you ever end up with a save game that reproduces can consistently reproduce the crash, please let me know.

It would be really great to get a page dedicated to all the little bug fixes and tweaks for playing the game on modern systems.
I've had no crashes as of yet, I will keep playing and if I run into the crash you mentioned, I will let you know.
