Beta Content pulled from D3

I've been reading a lot of D3 gaming news about the content that is being pulled from D3 for a variety of reasons (but mostly, at least according to blizz, lack of usefulness).

Some of the cuts were to:
Various Scrolls
Companion Pets
The Mystic Follwer/Crafter

I'm just curious if these removals were really necessary. According to Blizz they didn't add to the game in the way they were originally intended... but I assume that they didn't take away from the game either. I mean I'm sure some people would effectively make use of these features and those who didn't like them or didn't care don't really have to use them.

This is coming from ignorance, mainly from what I've read on the Blizz forums, opinion gaming news pieces, and those who have the beta that have either been in favor or against the changes.

I'm just curious as to what those with the beta, or just read up on the content subtractions think about them. For, against, indifferent...
