I can't say I recall this game being mentioned on the Lounge, and since we have a fair share of MMO players hanging around I figured I'd bring it up.
I played WoW from release until November '09 (2 years clean and sober!) and pretty much swore off any MMOs from that point on. I enjoyed my time in WoW, but found that towards the end I was playing because I felt obligated to assist in raids. I want to play a game because I enjoy it... not because I'm avoiding letting people down. I was selected to join in on one of SW:TOR's stress test weekends and I have to say it impressed me.
It has all the familiar elements of MMOs, but throws in Bioware's brand of plot progression. Think of it as Star Wars meets WoW meets Mass Effect meets Dragon Age. There are dialog options as you travel, choices to be made, and even a novel rolling system for when those types of conversations occur in a party. It feels like far more of a roleplaying game than WoW ever did, and this has been enough for me to sign up. It also didn't help that a group of old friends was dogging me to get it.
I'm not sure how long the game will hold me, but I played through the first ten levels with two character classes on the Imperial side and was quite impressed with the plot. It drew me in and the quest structure was such that I really never noticed that I was collecting X number of Macguffins or killing Y number of boars.
I'm digging it... and I said I would never play another MMO. That pretty much sums it up. The game's street date is December 20, 2011.
Has anyone else checked this out?
