We often mention it here on the lounge; fox news is bright wing propaganda.
Some of us then give some examples of left wing propaganda media.

Anyway, new research shows that Fox news viewer actually know less about current events than people who don't watch any news at all! Smile

Of course another conclusion might be that fox viewers are dumb to begin with. The researchers of course don't dare to make this conclusion but to me it sounds a lot more obvious than thinking that Fox news would not mention the fact that Mubarak is no longer in charge in Egypt for example.

Ignorance is universal.

I think it is more just a "Hollywood" stylized entertainment reality show. For both, it's the controversy that sells. And... there is the problem... it's all about the money, and not about informing the audience.

It really takes effort to stay abreast of the world's events, especially so when your news sources are more interested in informing you of some talentless celebrities latest life choice train wreck.

I'm so glad you could respond to the post while skirting and ignoring the results of the study, claiming something about "both" sides and "universal" - people who watch Fox News are dumber than people who don't watch news at all.
Trade yourself in for the perfect one. No one needs to know that you feel you've been ruined!

There's a reason it's referred to as Faux News.

Well, I didn't want to get into a pissing contest analyzing the validity of the study. MSNBC is the same pablum for a different audience.

Off the top of my head... There are reasons any measure like this could be biased. Which way do most academics, and highly educated people lean? Then, you have the urban/rural problem. What is the demographic Fox news is targeting? 612 individuals may not be a statistically significant sample. How random was the sample? What was the standard error ("margin of error of +/-3.5 percentage points."? How was the survey developed? It was conducted by telephone which incurs a bias. Was there coverage bias (including all the topics covered on NPR, but little of what was covered on Fox). Also, the sample was only New Jersey. Does that tell us anything about Florida, or California?

Then, the news article reporting the FDU study is in itself biased, drawing the conclusion that Fox viewers are more ignorant. Did you see this statement by FDU about the study?

"New Jerseyans are not necessarily more likely to be knowledgeable about domestic politics than international events. Just 47% are able to identify the Occupy Wall Street protesters as predominantly Democratic: 11 % think they are Republicans. Viewers of cable news on MSNBC are the most likely to think the protestors are Republicans.
Watching the left-leaning MSNBC news channel is associated with a 10-point increase in the likelihood of misidentifying the protesters."

So, I'll end with the same opinion I started. Ignorance is universal. For those that seek to be informed, they will get themselves informed. For everyone else, there is the entertainment of Fox or MSNBC, or football, or whatever.

Fox News successfully appealed that they have the right to distort and falsify the news in the United States.

I found that interesting.

Faux News, serving up lies, straw-man arguments, propaganda, and false consciousness at a TV near you. Viewers discretion advised. Rated PU for Practically Unwatchable.

To be fair, I don't care much for MSNBC either, however. Regular "Liberals" are sell-outs who love capitalism almost as much as conservatives do and have no desire to replace the system, only to reform it a bit. Which of course, will never ever work. And then, you have Faux News watchers who think MSNBC and its audience are all a bunch of Commies, which is a complete insult to real Marxists everywhere. It is quite annoying.

Ah yes... Faux News. I will read it to see what the crazies are thinking. CNN's not bad, not always sure of their accuracy, but eh. CNN gets dings though for its repeated coverage of Williston, ND Tongue Perhaps I should switch to the CBC, we're pretty much neighbors, and I'd trust them more than FN.

Ahh, the "real" Marxists... Of course, we should never insult them, because they have so much to teach us. They've already taught us much. If only they had 10-20 more years, things would have turned out so much better.

Sigh. I know I'm just feeding the troll here, but I'll bite.

First, it seems you are one of those Tea Baggers who thinks anyone who is slightly to the left of your ridiculous reactionary views, is automatically a Socialist. Which is an insult to both the person you are accusing, and Socialists themselves. Second, you clearly have no clue what Marxism even is, nor what you are talking about in general. Then again, you are the same person who posted in the Occupy thread that thinks we live in a perfect meritocracy, even though you were proven wrong by numerous people (including myself) to the point that you couldn't respond. When you educate yourself a little bit, instead of posting straw-man arguments, perhaps we will have something to talk about. But thus far, you are 0 for 2 against me.

This is what matters to the stockholders --> TV by the numbers. Fox has captured that market that likes their light weight news and opinions delivered by good looking women in cocktail dresses. It's all about the entertainment. Really.

Edit: Oh, and this is for FIT -->Marxism totally debunked forever.

So, if it's all about light and fluffy news delivered by attractive women, why is it the network of Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly?

Even on those shows, they have "segments". It would be pretty obvious to have all girls all the time, so there are a few anchor shows that cater to affirming the conservative talking points and position.

LOL. And I was expecting a genuine silver bullet.

I am 0 for 0 against you, actually. Your statements are generally so inane, that going against you is akin to arguing with a 5 year old about the virtues of nuclear power. Don't flatter yourself, please.
The reason that I did quote your posts a couple of times, is that some of your statements are so outlandish, that I simply need to politely point that out. This amuses me. Besides, trolling a troll is hardly a crime.

Now, as far as me not having a clue about Marxism, really you should quit while you're still significantly behind, my communist friend.

BTW, how did you celebrate November 7th? Did you demonstrate? Did you occupy?
