Blizz is having their writing contest again with the grand prize of a trip to visit them and either a Frostmourne replica sword or a barbarian overthrown diorama.
Sounds nifty and worth a shot, right? Well, for most of you it probably is, but unfortunately I'm not allowed to enter. Why? I live in CT, which is apparently a no no. According to the official rules, residents of North Dakota, Connecticut, Vermont and Maryland are ineligible (as well as some other places outside the US, like Quebec). Not sure why, seems kinda like they had to discount a few states and threw darts at a map. Serously though, anyone have any idea why those states in particular were excluded? Screw visiting Blizzard, I want that sword.

From what I understand it's because those states have laws that require no purchase - type entry. In this case the price of admission is a writing sample.

Screw visiting Blizzard, I want that sword. I think it is States laws regarding contests. I don't see anything specific without examining the details of the laws. I see that the states omitted do have specific laws dealing with contests of skill, so it appears Blizzard is avoiding complications. Or, maybe it is unlawful to own a sword in your state. I'm still looking at some rumors to that effect.

Finished library school, got a job in the same town as my undergrad alma mater, and I currently devote a large amount of my time to work, running a local science fiction convention, and playing an MMO called Atlantica Online. I've been thinking about returning to my D1 roots. It's been nearly 10 years.

Thanks for the update! I am glad to know that you are still lurking.
Returns to D1 roots can be tricky. Recently I logged into the game for the first time in many years and found that I had forgotten far too much. More importantly, much of what I did remember was inaccurate.

Welcome back to posting! I've been working in the local library for the last three years (since the tech company of which I was president went under). My degrees are in biology and biochemical sciences, not library science, so they don't help much where I am working now.
I miss read your MMO as "America Online" and thought "Oh they've finally figured out how to turn a profit." I often think about D1 but I don't have it installed. I keep my D2 characters refreshed, but I don't remember how to control them. It is all I can do to open the stash. My muscle memory is all WoW.
At least the D1 music still goes through my head.
