Charges on Etheral items

I usually pick up staffs (staves?) scepters, wands, etc to sell for their high value from +skills. The other day with my barb I picked up a blue staff that was etherial. I almost dropped it because etherial stuff loses a lot of value, but I didn't. When I ID'd it in town before selling, I noticed that it was a charged item and had 40/48 charges of teleport. My first thought was "Awesom, I can put this on my alternate weapon spot. 48 charges will last plenty long enough between town runs." So I took it to the weapon shop to get it recharged. No such luck. I knew durability could not be repaired, but I thought that charges could be replenished.

So is there any way to recharge an item other than repair, or am I limited to the 40 charges left on this staff?

there was ince a bug that allowed charged eth items to be repaired, i thiught that charged eths didnt even exist but did u even try to repair it???????? if not than try just for the sake of it
