I've never seen this before... But I got D off to the left of the Pentagram parked just slightly behind a pillar. He could whack me, but his river of fire went around me and his lightning breath was not visible, nor would it hurt me either. I was able to stay there drinking pots and whack him down with my pitiful AR at Level 21.
