Defense vs Ar Question.
#1
Im thinking about getting into a mid level dueling area that forbids use of the Eth rune. This is not a bad way to demonstrate a bit of skill. I have the hypothetical build I would use planned out, but I was curious as to some statistics.

Im thinking about defiance + smite + Another skill yet decided. Im up in the air for a final skill of vengence, sacrifice, zeal or blessed hammers.

If I have 30k defense at level 76, and the person that I am dueling against has a total of 6k Ar at level 76, how often would I expect them to hit me that would cause a block or a strike dealing damage.

Thanks lurkers

The chance to hit equation is this:
chance = 100% * 2 * AR/(AR + DR) * clvl/(clvl + mlvl)

In your case, this'd be:
chance = 100% * 2 * 6000/(6000 + 30000) * 76/(76 + 76)
chance = 200 * 6000/36000 * 76/152
chance = 200 * 1/6 * 1/2
chance = 16.7%

The chance to hit is calculated as follows:

p_hit(ar,dr,al,dl)=ar/(ar+dr) 2al/(al+dl)

where ar is the attack rating, dr the defense rating and al and dl the attacker and defender level. Since you and your opponent are at tha same level the formula simplifies to

p_hit(ar,dr)=ar/(ar+dr).

With your numbers the chance for him to hit you will be 1/6~16.66%. These hits can be blocked by you with a certain block pobability p_block.

Putting all together gives

(1-p_hit) is the chance for him to miss entirely

(p_hit*p_block ) is the chance for him to hit but you block and finally

(p_hit*(1-p_block)) is the chance for him to actually damage you.

Inserting ar=6k, dr=30k and (assumed) p_block=0.75 we get

Miss: 5/6 ~ 83.33%
Hit & Block: 1/8 ~ 12.5%
Hit & No Block: 1/24 ~ 4.16%
