Tremaine is a priest who apparently existed in Tristram at some stage in development of the game. He still has at least sound files on the Diablo CD (Lemming has extracted these and posted the text somewhere), but obviously he never really made it into the release version of the game. There are a lot of graphics and soundbites on the Diablo CD that didn't end up in the game for one reason or another. I would say that in general the material that got used was better than that which didn't, but modmakers love that unused material to give their mods a different feel.
