Another solution could be to use the usually despised sticky keys. Windows will activate sticky keys if you keep tapping shift. If you've been lucky enough to never come across this before, sticky keys basically turns shift into a toggle button, like caps lock. Press it once, and the computer will assume it's being held down until you press it again.
