By proper choice of which spells to use, I rarely get the aggroon my mage unless I intend to get it. When I do intended to get the aggro, the threat reducing blessing usually is not going to make a big difference anyway. In fact it can be a detriment since one of the cases that I do prefer to pull the aggro is to take it off the healer for the group; not a time when I want to have to do extra mana consumption to acheive the goal of protecting the healer.
In most cases I would prefer for my mage to have the bonus to mana recovery to help cut the down time some.

I have to agree with Tal on this. The extra mana recovery makes for being able to keep the special shots being fired more often. I find the extra potential ranged DPS from this to be of more use than a blessing improving my melee damage (which will still be rather inferior to my ranged DPS).
