As far as protecting him from himself, rather than pulling one baddie off of him, I (the mage) would do better to be the sacrificial lamb. Run next to him and go full on aoe to pull all mobs so that he is not getting beat on. With shielding and healing, I should last long enough to allow several of the baddies to be pulled/eliminated. With as fragile as he seems and with how hard the baddies hit, the best plan might be to have two mages nuking. I have no idea what comes after that first bunch so I really don't know what would be needed after that point.

If it is just the concern of gaining the aggro of several monsters quick, maybe your main tank using some EZ-Thro Dynamite to gain the aggro of all but Windor's target would be in order.
